Smash Mouth’s Camp Justifies Opening For *NSYNC

Ramiro Burr of the San Antonio Express-News spoke with Smash Mouth guitarist/songwriter Greg Camp about the move to open for a pop group like . Camp said, “We’re on the same airwaves as . But we write our own songs, we play our own instruments, and we actually sing live. And they’re a track act, they’re a boy band. Artistically, it’s not really the coolest thing in the world.” Camp added, “We’ll be playing for 20,000 people. There’s a percentage of those people that knows who we are but don’t have our album. If we can kick their (behinds) every night, they may buy our record.”
