Kelly Clarkson tells The Glasgow Daily Record she was turned away from one record company just because she was white before she found fame on ‘American Idol’. Kelly said: ”I sent my CD demo to lots of record companies. One was really interested and they asked me to go in to speak to them with a view to signing something. ‘When they saw me and realized I was white they didn’t want to know. They thought I was black when they heard me singing. I didn’t think anything like that could happen, but it is all about marketing. They didn’t think they could market a white girl who sang like a black girl.”

well they marketed eminem as a white guy doing black music easy enough. sounds like she’s bitter she had to sell her soul to reality TV instead of get a record deal herself!
THAT IS SUCH BULLS!T,,, HOW DOES SHE EXPLAIN PINK; EMINEM; JUSTIN, etc. ALL OF WHOM SING (pink used to) R-n-B or Hip hop. SHE WAS REJECTED BECAUSE SHE IS UGLY AND SUCKS.
Kelly didn’t mean her musical style sounds Urban, her voice does. Honestly.. Kelly’s voice is beautiful, it’s very soulful and I find her music to be very bluesy and soulful. Her voice is better then Christina Aguilera’s, because her high notes don’t sound like loud screams. Kelly’s notes flow,where as Christina will be like…. “Yeeaaaaaaaaa -ea-ea-ea-ea-ea-ea-ea-AAAAAAAAAAAAAA-eaeaeae-ea-ea-ea-woooo”..and Kelly’s are.. Like.. “YeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeAAAAAAAAAAA”
She’s telling the truth. Somewhat. Part of the reason why she was turned away was because of race. Only in the past couple of years have labels been more accepting of white artists who sound black. If you’re in the industry you’d know that. If you’re not, then you don’t know S H * T!!! Yes, her race undoubtedly played a part in why she was turned away, but also the fact that she’s no traditional beauty also played a role. When Christina sent her demo to RCA, she wasn’t turned away even though she sounds black because unlike Kel, Christina is absolutely gorgeous. She has the entire package labels look for. Kelly was turned away because of the industry’s racial politics but MAINLY because of her looks. SIDE NOTE: There are a number of blue-eyed soul acts ‘waiting in the wings’ on various lables who will all debut next year. Sony, in particular, has a young girl about to drop who’s going to give Christina and Kelly some real competition. Seriously.
