Sting Blasts Manufactured Pop reports that Sting has added himself to the list of veteran musicians blasting manufactured pop acts dominating today’s charts thanks to the success of ‘American Idol’ and ‘Pop Idol’. “You do a few dance steps, mime a track you probably haven’t sung, and you’re a huge star,” he moaned. “But there are fewer iconic artists who’ll have a career of 30 years. There’s a lot of waste – if you don’t make it instantly, you’re out.”

You can’t deny that those people on American Idol can sing. Kelly Clarkson Ruben can sing Clay can sing. You can’t deny those people talent. Sure you can be angry about how they made it big but you can’t deny that they can’t sing. All these people sing better than Sting.

Stallion, you’ve missing the point. What Sting is talking about is paying your dues instead of some hot-shot music scumbag along with several public relations people who supposed to looking out of your best interests saying they’ll make you a star and all that bullcrap. Sting knows what he’s talking about. He been in this business for over 30 years. He maybe not the best singer but he didn’t came out as the member of one of the greatest rock band (The Police) and became one one of the greatest singer/Jazz musician and songwriting artist of all time for nothing. Even at the Age 53, Sting’s still making hit records WORLDWIDE. Kelly, Ruben and Clay are nothing but manufactured stars and they will be gone in within two years. mark my words

While I completely understand Sting’s frustration with the manufactured pop acts, I do think there’s a HUGE difference between acts like Spears/BSB/NStink and AI’s vocal powerhouses Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Kim Locke, Kelly Clarkson, & Tamyra Gray. None of Jive’s jokes nor “Pop Idol’s” best can get with any of AI’s top vocalists. Neva. The notion is actually quite laughable.

a little bit hypocritical of him to slate manufactured pop especially as he’s worked with a lot of the people he’s criticizing. Also, regardless of how they made it big, they are talented.
