Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean was on the phone from Vienna, Austria with Steve Harper and Big Randy of WBLI in Long Island. AJ talked about ditching the sunglasses since becoming sober, sticking to “American food” on the road but enjoying international food while at home, they then played a word association game, and he revealed plans for a solo album next year. Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean was photographed out and about, with the aid of a walking cane following his on-stage injury in Las Vegas, with girlfriend Katie on August 28th in Malibu, California.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that the Backstreet Boys’ concert Saturday at Mandalay Bay came seemed to point to an injury to AJ McLean. At the end of the show, the singer was unable to join his bandmates on stage. Instead he sat on the stairs and, after the final bows, hopped off on one foot, helped by a guard.

I was in New York on 5th Avenue on Tuesday and saw AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys and his girlfriend walking down 5th. His girlfriend was really pretty: long brown hair and dressed to the nines. He had a hat on and his goatee was freshly shaved- he looked great. He was smoking a cigarette and they looked very happy with each other. Cute couple.

AJ McLean’s mother Denise posted a new diary entry on her official website on Monday (September 27), where she talked about her Backstreet Boys son’s knee surgery which occurred three weeks ago. “Although the damage to his knee was more extensive than the doctor had anticipated all did go fine,” she said. “What that means is that AJ’s healing time will be a bit longer and his therapy more intensive but by couple of weeks only. He was in a lot of pain the first week after the operation, but with extra TLC from Mom, managed to bounce back pretty fast.”
