Antonella Barba And Jared Cotter Talk About ‘American Idol’ Exit

Tony Potts of ‘Access Hollywood’ interviewed recently booted ‘American Idol’ semi-finalists Antonella Barba and Jared Cotter.

Asked how she was feeling the moment where she’d be on or off the show, Barba said, “I was fearing the moment. You almost know what’s coming. It was scary.”

Did Barba expect to the in the top 12? “I expected to be, of course everyone wants to be. When I woke up that morning, I had a good feeling. I thought I would be. You can’t be nervous about something that’s inevitable. Once it’s out of your hands, it’s out of your hands. I wasn’t so nervous going into it until there were only two spots left for the girls and four girls left. I just had a feeling, and at that point, I wasn’t so sure anymore.”

On the moment Antonella got the word, “I cried immediately. I went upstairs, saw (Jared) because he was voted off before me. He was all relaxed and I was crying. He was trying to calm me down, but you’ve kind of got to get that cry out, however long it takes. Say your goodbyes, which is the hardest part because you know you’re not gonna see some of the people ever again.”

Antonella Barba’s Instant Celebrity Shows How Rapidly Pop Landscape Has Changed

MTV News profiled how behavior that would have shocked the music world less than a decade ago is almost becoming a requirement to achieve fame today. “To some degree, the threshold of what shocks the American public has been lowered a little bit,” said Michael Slezak, a senior writer for Entertainment Weekly. “Paris Hilton had a sex tape before she had a record deal. We’ve now seen parts of Britney Spears that we wouldn’t have expected to see. So the fact that those things have happened have made us less shocked about Antonella [Barba] in a bikini bottom and a wet T-shirt, even if it is in front of one of the WWII memorials.” Read more.

Frenchie Protests Continue, Manager Hints At Antonella Exit Conspiracy

Frenchie Davis’ manager Belinda tells EUR that Antonella Barba’s departure from ‘American Idol’ last week doesn’t make a bit of difference when it comes to producers making things right with the plus sized singer who was ousted in the second season of ‘Idol’ for porn pictures. “If anything, it raises the suspicion in that Fox is not only not wanting to speak to us and address our concerns in terms of Frenchie, but suddenly Antonella’s off the show,” Foster remarked. “We’re getting many calls, [including] from other media sources, saying something is strange. Was it her actually being booted off by the public, or was it something on a political side to see if they could squash our request to take a meeting?”

Jersey Girl Barba Eliminated From ‘Idol’

March 8, 2007 – The Newark Star-Ledger weighed in on the news their local hero Antonella Barba’s run on ‘American Idol’ came to an end on Thursday night. The paper writes, “Antonella may not have liked the pictures’ unexpected release, but they quickly made her the most famous contestant this season. Edelstein: Antonella Barba Touches America’s Basic Instinct

Jeff Edelstein of The Trentonian had yet another column on ‘American Idol’ semi-finalist Antonella Barba on Sunday (March 11), this time focusing on the controversy sparked by Frenchie Davis, who claimed a double standard after she was booted for her porn site pictures, while Barba’s racy leaked pictures didn’t cause a similar reaction. He writes, “Paris Hilton half-nude? Expected. All-American college gal on ‘American Idol’ half-naked? Relatively unexpected, though not really, especially for anyone who’s ever surfed through MySpace or Facebook, where teen and college-aged girls are indeed going wild all over the place, posting Barba-like pics for most anyone to see. Is this a problem? Who knows. But it’s certainly a far cry from my not-so-distant youth, when the hot, sexy look for the hot, sexy girls in my high school consisted of baggy jeans and an oversized Champion sweatshirt. Times change, right?” Read more.

She comes home a little bit older and a lot wiser.”
