Ben Jelen’s good looks and comparisons to John Mayer have already made him a staple in magazines such as Teen People and CosmoGirl, which doesn’t bother him. “I don’t care as long as everyone is listening to the music,” he tells Mary Huhn of The New York Post. “One half of the people I meet say, ‘you’re so hot,'” he says, laughing. “The other half says, ‘I really love your music, and I’m not telling you this because I think you’re hot.”

I was an intern, engineer and producer so I’ve seen people come and go,” Jelen said. “I’ve got some prospect of this life and side of it. Seeing that side, it has helped. It has kept me focused.”
Teen People had a ‘What’s Next in 2004’ feature in the February issue and briefly profiled Ben Jelen, who has a B.A. in biology from Rutgers University. The 24-year-old decided to ditch a career in the science lab for one in a music studio. “It’s tough for me to be passionate about science,” he admitted. “[I’d be] cleaning my test tubes, wishing I was playing guitar.”
