Windy City Times spoke with Kathy Griffin in a Q&A, asking the comedian about whether she felt vindicated with the news that ‘American Idol’ season two runner-up Clay Aiken has finally come out of the closet. “I do. I am still hurt that I was not asked to be the babymomma,” Griffin said. “I am going to have to ask my own inner Clay on how to get over that.”
Told she was so right about the whole thing by interviewer Jerry Nunn, Griffin said, “Well, I think it’s really great that he came out. The picture of him holding the baby is such a powerful image because gay adoption is such a hot issue. He came out at a relatively young age. I very much applaud him for coming out at this time. He’s still facing the people on Broadway every night. He’s being honest with himself and his kid, and I think it’s great. Doesn’t mean that I am not going to make fun of him for the rest of my life, but I still think he’s great.” Read more.
Clay Aiken is opening up about his decision to end the speculation about his sexuality and confirmed he is gay in an interview with People magazine. The ‘American Idol’ season two runner-up writes:
There are plenty of you who have anticipated this blog in hopes that I would “set the record straight” or “admit to lying for five years and apologize for it”. For that small group of people, I am afraid I will have to disappoint you. My decisions over the past five years have been made with lots of deliberation and at times even heartache. Always with concern for folks who might feel mislead. Don’t doubt that. But they have also been made as an attempt, not to hide my true self, but instead to allow myself the same liberties and rights that every single gay man and woman in the world should have… the right to determine for myself when I was ready to discuss my personal life. In as much as that, at times, was interpreted as misrepresentation, I feel badly. But I reserved that right for myself and I can’t say I regret it.

Several fans on the popular Clay Aiken forum Clay World are reacting to news the ‘American Idol’ season two runner-up announced he’s gay in a cover story with People magazine. “I wish him well and hope he gets some peace of mind now BUT I feel he lied to everyone-especially us fans,” NJ4ClayA said. “He should have just said so years ago. I feel like we were “used”. I still love to hear him sing but I also feel he has now become like a Michael Jackson and it’s a bit too weird!”
But others voiced support. “Clay is still the same Clay we fell in love with,” annieg9 writes. “He is still the same charismatic, gorgeous, ultratalented, humanitarian. I love him more now than ever!”

Griffin later commented on Britney Spears, suggesting the troubled pop star should join the polygamist sect in Texas raided by authorities two months ago. “I was going to say is Britney one of the polygamy wives now,” Griffin asked. “I thought the Britney material was a good – And you know, that might not be a bad place for her. I’m not for polygamy. I’m just saying with everything Britney is going through, maybe she could live at the come pound with the FLDS or LDS or … I’m just saying it would calm her down a little bit. Get her in the nice, comfortable outfit.” Read the full transcript here.
