Cyndi Lauper Redoes Her Old Hits

The New York Daily News reports that while critics in the early days predicted Cyndi Lauper would outlast Madonna, she floundered during the 1990s. “Fame came really quickly for her, and she was pulled in a lot of directions in terms of creativity, management, label - everything all at once,” said Tamara Conniff, co-executive editor of Billboard magazine. “But she is still a cool chick with a fantastic voice. She was always out of left field and was very outspoken and nonconformist. Her songwriting has really stood the test of time.” The singer is out with ‘The Body Acoustic’ today, a reinterpretation of some of her favorite songs plus two new ones.

If you’re a little kid, you know who they are. They’re on the buses [in Tokyo]. They’re a rap kind of pop group, but it’s cool.”

To her infinite credit, Ms. Lauper delicately turned away from the crowd and wiped her tongue on her shirt before resuming her set gracefully.”
