Backstreet Boys, Carmen Electra, Cyndi Lauper, Deborah Gibson, Delta Goodrem, Eurythmics, George Huff, No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani, Hilary Duff, James Blunt, Jenny McCarthy, Jesse McCartney, Joe Simpson, Katie Cassidy, Lance Armstrong, Lindsay Lohan, Mariah Carey, Michelle Branch, Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees, Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton, Paula Abdul, matchbox twenty singer Rob Thomas, Ryan Cabrera, Ryan Seacrest, Sean Paul, Shakira, Sheryl Crow, Talan Torriero, and The Veronicas were on hand for the 33rd Annual American Music Awards at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California on November 22nd.
The New York Daily News reports that while critics in the early days predicted Cyndi Lauper would outlast Madonna, she floundered during the 1990s. “Fame came really quickly for her, and she was pulled in a lot of directions in terms of creativity, management, label – everything all at once,” said Tamara Conniff, co-executive editor of Billboard magazine. “But she is still a cool chick with a fantastic voice. She was always out of left field and was very outspoken and nonconformist. Her songwriting has really stood the test of time.” The singer is out with ‘The Body Acoustic’ today, a reinterpretation of some of her favorite songs plus two new ones.
Pop acts on television this week include Cyndi Lauper, who performs on ‘The Tony Danza Show’ on Monday; The Click Five, who visit ‘Total Request Live’ and ‘Daily Download’ on Monday and ‘Cold Pizza’ on Tuesday; Shakira, who performs on ‘TRL’ on Tuesday; Hilary Duff, who performs on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’ on Wednesday and visits ‘TRL’ on Wednesday; Ricky Martin, who performs on ‘Today’ on Wednesday and ‘The Early Show’ on Friday; Jennifer Love Hewitt, who visits ‘The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson’ on Thursday; and Lindsay Lohan, who visits ‘TRL’ with her little sister Ali on Friday.
At 52, Cyndi Lauper is releasing a new album called ‘Cyndi Lauper: The Body Acoustic’, that re-imagines some of her prom staples, like ‘Time After Time’, ‘All Through the Night’, and ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’, with a wacky cast of characters from various music genres. “In this album, I not only try to make it more of that backporch style, but I brought in all the genres of music that I love,” Lauper told ‘The Insider’. “So I got Shaggy to do a Jamaican vibe and I got Vivian Green from the R&B world to come into my world and mix it up and I got Ani Difranco and, of course, Sarah McLachlan and Jeff Beck and Puffy Amiyumi. If you’re a little kid, you know who they are. They’re on the buses [in Tokyo]. They’re a rap kind of pop group, but it’s cool.”

Cyndi Lauper performed on stage at rehearsals ahead of the ‘Wall Of Hope 2004 Festival’ on Friday (September 24), after meeting with reporters a day earlier, in Beijing, China. The concert – the first ever pop music event to be staged on the Great Wall – took place on September 25th in front of 10,000 invited guests, and commemorated the 20th anniversary of the restoration of the Great Wall. Cyndi Lauper was in the studio with Kyle and Jackie O recently on a visit to Australia. Lauper talked about visiting the country, the influence she had on Jackie when she was growing up, her current tour, and she fielded a few questions by phone by a guy named Kevin. The 5-minute interview has since been removed by the station.
The Boston Herald’s ‘Inside Track’ has gossip from Sunday’s KISS Concert at the Tweeter Center, including a very disgusting detail about Cyndi Lauper’s set – where a bird relieved itself while flying overhead. They write, “Sadly, the ’80s rocker had her mouth opened for a high note and gravity prevailed with dead-on accuracy. To her infinite credit, Ms. Lauper delicately turned away from the crowd and wiped her tongue on her shirt before resuming her set gracefully.”

Nick & Jessica Had The 2nd Highest Rated Show On ABC
April 18, 2004 – The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly reports ‘The Nick & Jessica Variety Hour’ was the 2nd highest rated show on ABC for the week and No. 16 among all networks. The show won it’s time slot among 18 to 49-year-olds and prompted the network to okay a Christmas special with Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees.
Cyndi Lauper says she plans to go straight on the road with her latest work, and then return to New York and interpret the album for Broadway in the near future. She tells Reuters, “I am going to Europe but I am coming back and I will do a little tour with this stuff and my rock and roll music but basically I want to develop this into a one woman play where I can sing and tell stories.”
