Gabriella Cilmi checked in with fans on her Tumblr with an update on the follow-up to her second album ‘Ten’ and work to bring that new material out on the road. The Australian pop singer writes:
I have been rehearsing with my band to make sure the songs will sound tip top in a live setting and also getting a few ideas for finishing off and fine tuning the new tracks. I will be recording close to finished versions of some tracks starting next weekend… THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER…!!!!!

Gabriella Cilmi has revealed she has a crush on actor Robert Downey Jr., 45. “Robert Downey Jr. He’s a bit old, but that hasn’t stopped a lot of people! I’m only joking,” the 18-year-old Australian singer said, according to Contact Music. “I think he’s really cute and just a total hottie.” But don’t look for the ‘Sweet About Me’ singer to hook up with a soccer player. “They seem to get themselves into quite a bit of trouble,” she opined.

Gabriella Cilmi checked in with fans on her official web site’s blog on Thursday (July 29), discussing her shows in the UK, shooting the ‘Defender’ music video, and performing with Marc Cerrone in October. The Australian pop singer writes:
Today is the first day off I have had in ages…sorry I have been out of reach, July has been a crazy, CRAZY month.
I’ve been mainly been spending my time zooming all around the UK playing MASSIVE radio events, kicking off at the MEN Arena in Manchester! The crowds have been crazy. Thank you to anyone who came to check out my little shows! Hopefully I’ll have a tour of my own coming up, I can’t wait to play a full set and work on a bit more of a show!
Another big deal….I filmed the “Defender Video”!!!!!!! We filmed it in Chelmsford’s water factory. There was lime scale falling from the walls (eww) and it was quite cold and lonely looking, but it had just the right character for the video. The video’s story line follows a girl (that would be moi) leaving behind one world, stripping back everything that hides who she truly is and then going into battle to protect someone or something she believes in….but that’s my little secret ;)

Gabriella Cilmi checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace on Monday (June 21), talking about her gig opening for Leona Lewis on tour in the UK, where Leona is having everyone involved in the tour provided with vegetarian catered food (crew are reportedly upset about the mandate). The Australian pop singer writes:
I’ve bumped into Leona a few times. She seems really busy but she sent me a card at the beginning of the tour saying that it was a pleasure to share the stage which was really sweet!
Lots of people have been asking me about the vegetarian catering for the whole tour. I’m not a veggie myself but it’s actually been quite nice, I never realized that Tofu could be used in so many different ways! It is good but just not sure about a Sunday roast with fake bacon. A bit wrong!
Apart from the fake meat substitutes there are lots of really nice vegetables and fruits backstage and puddings like chocolate brownies!
I’m trying hard not to stuff myself before going on stage though!!!

Tonight I’m going to present an award at the Soap Awards with Toady from Neighbours. I’m a little too excited to be honest. He’s had some err…unusual hair do’s over the years. I wonder if he will be wearing one of those Tropical shirts his character loves!
Speaking of Neighbours… I performed at the Logies (The Australian TV awards) in Melbourne last week. It was a super performance- complete with acrobats, dancers and pyrotechnics. I was a little scared my hair might catch fire or one of the acrobats would fall of the hoola hoops hanging from the ceiling- but it all went according to plan!

Gabriella Cilmi did a Q&A for Leona Lewis’ official web site Q&A ahead of her gig as the opening act for ‘The X Factor’ champ’s UK tour. Asked if she’s thrilled to be on the bill with Lewis, Cilmi responded:
Yeah, definitely, it’s going to be great. I’m most looking forward to playing the four dates at the O2 in London. I’ve also heard that Leona is going to have a Labyrinth theme so I’m looking forward to seeing how they put that together. I hear she’s a strict vegetarian so I’m also looking forward to the veggie catering!
