Gavin DeGraw Talks About New Album

Gavin DeGraw talks about working on his new album in the studio and his approachGavin DeGraw took a break in the studio from recording to talk a little about the new album.

“I came off the road to get my bearings and to shrink it down a little bit. I really want to tap into something that I haven’t tapped into for a little while,” Gavin explained. “I’m kind of making an indie record, it’s really kind of what’s happening. The best produced sounding album. I really want to try to keep it more simple, so there are less things in the way, less distractions, from the song, to the performance of the song, to the ears that are supposed to be listening to the song. If you listen to a song too many times in the studio or if you play over it too many times, you’re trying to make it perfect, it interrupts what the song initially did for you. It interrupts the connection you initially had for the song, and also the connection you had to the people who were initially listening to the song. Then it’s almost as if everything you add to the song, every instrument you add and every part that you add, it almost becomes a little bit of a barrier between your listener and you. I like this record for that reason, for those elements. Keeping it much more raw. It just feels good.”

“What’s up. Happy New Year everybody,” the singer songwriter told viewers. “Where are we right now? We’re somewhere in the United States. I can’t reveal the location because we’re in a witness protection program. Very dangerous, high profile case that we’re a part of right now. I hope you guys have a great new year and I’ll catch you in a couple weeks.”

Gavin DeGraw Urges Fans To Donate To Nothing But Nets

Gavin DeGraw checked in with fans on his blog at MySpace (@gavindegraw) on Tuesday (December 9), making an appeal for donations to Nothing But Nets. The singer songwriter tells readers:

Hi Everyone,

As the holidays approach and we get in the giving spirit, consider giving the gift of life this year. A $10 donation to Nothing But Nets, a grassroots campaign to prevent malaria in Africa, is all it takes to send a net and save a life. Instead of buying another tie or gift certificate for a loved one, you can send a net and save a life in someone’s honor. It is truly a gift that keeps on giving – because an insecticide-treated bed net lasts up to five years.

Donate today and give the gift of life in honor of someone you care about this holiday season.

As I am writing to you, more than 17,000 bed nets are already being distributed to families in Nakivale, a refugee camp in southern Uganda. Nakivale is one of 11 camps in desperate need for bed nets in Uganda, and with the crisis in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, thousands more refugees are arriving at these camps each day. Malaria is the leading killer of refugees. The UN Refugee Agency, Nothing But Nets, and myself are working hard to get bed nets to refugees – but we need YOUR help!

Uganda’s rainy season started this month, making insecticide-treated bed nets more important than ever to protect refugees from malaria-carrying mosquitoes. It costs just $10 to send a net and protect a family of four from malaria.

Thanks to fans like YOU, my Nothing But Nets NET-Raiser Team has already raised enough to purchase nearly 500 life-saving bed nets. I can’t think of a better way to enter the holiday season. Let’s continue this generosity and see how many more lives we can save through the holidays. Thank you for your support!

Happy Holidays!

Gavin DeGraw Talks About Dinner In France

Gavin DeGraw has maybe one of his best meals in FranceGavin DeGraw posted another MySpace TV highlight clip from his recently completed European tour. After having dinner in France, DeGraw talked about communication difficulties at the restaurant, since nobody in the restaurant spoke English at all, and they were given a dictionary to convert the words on the French menu.

Despite taking 20 minutes to translate an order, DeGraw said, “It might be the best dinner of the whole trip. Maybe one of the best meals of all time.”

Gavin DeGraw Looking For Food, Finding Graffiti

Gavin DeGraw on an early morning hunt for foodGavin DeGraw and his videographer went on a 5 AM food run, with Gavin weighing in on graffiti covering some old architecture along a covered walkway, presumably in France.

“Well I think I’m hungry,” Gavin said to his videographer. “I think you’re hungry too, and I think it’s time to get some food.” Except that time was 5 in the morning. “Maybe somebody is tortured as much as we are and they have to be at work also at this time.”
