While ‘Idol’ apparently preferred Jessica, it was her meddling dad Joe who got in the way, clearing the way for J.Lo to swoop in to get the job on the hit FOX show. “This was definitely Jessica’s to lose and that’s exactly what her dad-manager did,” an insider revealed. “Once it became clear it was going to be impossible to negotiate a deal with papa Joe, J.Lo was snapped up. Jessica Simpson Talks With David Letterman About Ex-Boyfriends

When Dave asked about Mayer’s headlining making interview with Playboy magazine, where he compared the singer to “sexual napalm”, Jess said, “Normally you’d think someone you care about would keep those details to himself. It was definitely a compliment, in a way. I don’t really want people to know that about me. I’m like the good girl, then that happened.”

The interview video on the CBS show’s YouTube channel has since been removed.
