Ashlee Simpson checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace on Tuesday (January 27), reacting to a FoxNews.com story with the headline “Jessica Simpson Shocks Fans With Noticeably Fuller Figure”, which followed Jessica’s performance at the Radio 99.9 Kiss Country’s annual Chili Cookoff in Florida on Sunday. Ashlee tells readers:

I am completely disgusted by the headlines concerning my sister’s weight. A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman’s weight or figure as a headline on Fox News.

All women come in different shapes, sizes, and forms and just because you’re a celebrity, there shouldn’t be a different standard.

Is this something you would say to your wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, or even a friend?

I seriously doubt it.

How can we expect teenage girls to love and respect themselves in an environment where we criticize a size 2 figure?

Now can we focus on the things that really matter.

Jessica Simpson spoke with People magazine about her sister Ashlee Simpson giving birth to Bronx Mowgli Wentz on Thursday night. “Bronx is beyond precious. I’m over the moon with joy,” aunt Jessica said Friday. “Life is a beautiful miracle. Ashlee and Pete are healthy, happy, and enjoying every moment.”

The singing sisters’ parents Joe and Tina Simpson also issued a statement on the baby news Friday. “We can’t wait to spend Bronx’s first holidays together with the whole family,” they said. “We are truly blessed.”
