Jewel Blogs About Fame

Jewel checked in with fans on her official web site on Friday (March 27), sharing her thoughts on fame. The singer songwriter tells readers:

I often get asked about fame. Fame is an unfathomable creature that shifts shape, and one becomes even more aware of the mythical creature Fame when in LA. Many people want to be famous here. Here is what I have learned: Fame does not exist except in the minds of people. It is not real. It’s like the Easter Bunny, or Disneyland. It is not a real thing. It is not a tree or air or bread. It is a fantasy that is created and built on clouds in our collective minds. I guess mostly it reminds me of high school; everyone wants to be liked and popular. The difference with celebrity is that there is money to be made at this, and there is an entire industry built around manufacturing, selling and creating the illusion of celebrity.

I have always felt like an outsider- even in school. I have always been shy and introverted and watched the ‘cool’ kids, and I wrote about everything I saw. It shocked me that these writings led me to fame. Ty and I often talk about success, and have categorized famous people in two groups. One group is made of those who wanted to be excellent at their craft, and by being excellent became successful or famous as a side effect. For this group, being good at their craft was the goal. For the other group, fame is the destination, and they simply see music or sports, or whatever, as their vehicle to fame. When you meet someone, you can instantly see which of the two groups they fall in.

How Jewel Is Dealing With Her Broken Leg

Jewel checked in with fans on official web site blog on Monday (March 23), talking about husband Ty Murray competing in ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and how she’s been dealing with her leg fracture. The singer songwriter tells readers:

I have relaxed this week- shopped a little too. :) I have been pretty bad about taking care of my leg. I get embarrassed by the extra attention it draws to me, especially if I’m going somewhere by myself, and so I tried to go without it for a day. It felt ok all day, just a little painful- but that night it really started hurting. And at the house I don’t use my crutch, I kinda hobble around, which isn’t helping, so I have to try and be more strict about using it. The doctor said I can use a cane, so I may try that. It seems a little easier and less bulky, so we will see. I still can’t believe I broke my leg and it’s gonna be 6 more weeks at least until I’m all better. I keep thinking it will get better any day now. :)

Jewel Society For Singer Songwriters With Snaggle Teeth PSA

Jewel PSA for the Society for Singer Songwriters with Snaggle Teeth (SSSST)Last night’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ featured Jewel doing a PSA for a cause she cares deeply about – The Society for Singer Songwriters with Snaggle Teeth (SSSST).

“Did you know that 78% of American women are unhappy with the way they look,” Jewel asked. “Hi, I’m Jewel. People are always asking me why don’t I get my teeth fixed. Well, I’m proud of my flaws, and you should be too. Not only do I think my horrible snaggletooth is uniquely beautiful, it also comes in handy. It can open bottles, cans of soup, and even pesky bike locks. But my mangled chompers are more than just a party trick, this mouth has saved lives. So don’t look in the mirror and see your flaws. Look in the mirror and see a solution. Just be proud of who you are.”

Jewel: ‘Lullaby’ A Return To Form, Not Formula

Jewel updated fans on her blog at her official web site on Saturday (March 14), talking about her night out with hubby Ty Murray at Nobu, meeting up with Perez Hilton, and her new album ‘Lullaby’. The singer songwriter tells readers:

As for ‘Lullaby’, I think that you discerning fans will think of this album as a “return to form,” whatever that means, but it’s not a return to formula. I am not 19, and so I can never get in a time machine and be or sound like I was when I was 19 on my first album. This album is stripped down and showcases my vocals, writing and unique style more than any album since then, but it reflects my growth as a singer and a writer over time as well. I’m 34 and I have grown and tried to retain what’s special from when I was 19, while also, dare I hope, get better at singing and producing. I think you will be pleased, especially if you listen to it as its own thing.

Jewel Wants To See Ty Murray Do Well On ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Jewel checked in with fans on her blog at her official web site on Monday (March 9) before hubby Ty Murray made his debut on ‘Dancing with the Stars’, which she had planned on competing in as well before injuries forced her to bow out. Jewel tells readers:

Well, I’m in LA- getting moved into the apartment the show gave us to live in while we are here for the show. It’s a nice place, and I will spend the day buying supplies to get us set up here- laundry detergent and groceries and stuff. It was strange leaving Texas, not knowing if we would be in LA for only 2 weeks, or 2 months- it all depends on how far Ty makes it on the show! I hope he makes it to the end, for 2 reasons- because I want to see him do well, first of all. He has been working so hard and I’m so proud of him! Of all the contestants, I think he is the most outside his comfort zone. For a quiet cowboy to do such an outgoing, public and “metro” thing is amazing!

Well, as many of you know I have been having trouble with my knees after rehearsing long hours for Dancing With The Stars. The doctors thought I had tendonitis, but when I wasn’t feeling better after some rest, I decided to get an MRI. When I heard the results I was in utter disbelief. The doctors told me that not one, but both of my legs were fractured!! He said my left one was particularly bad, and that I had to not only stop dancing, but stop walking and use crutches!!!

Jewel Readies ‘Lullaby’ For Mother’s Day

Singer songwriter JewelJewel updated fans on her blog at MySpace (@jewel) on Monday (March 2), talking about ‘Dancing with the Stars’ rehearsals and plans to release ‘Lullaby’ on Mother’s Day. The singer songwriter tells readers:

I just finished recording my lullaby album, and it’s titled “Lullaby,” straight and too the point :) It should come out in time for Mothers Day- May 5th is the date it will be in stores. It’s not just “kids” album, per se- I call it a mood album. It’s something soothing to chill to at the end of a long day; good for kids, but written with adults in mind. Nothing up-tempo, just 10 songs I wrote, and a few standards like Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star; I found 5 or 6 ‘lost’ verses, so I’m proud of this version. It’s a really acoustic record, kinda like ‘Pieces of you’ was – but no rhythm section. Just me and my guitar and a few cellos and mandolins and stuff like that.
