So, I went to the physical therapist yesterday and I can say that I am feeling better! He said if I take time now to heal that I will be good to go by next week. I hate missing these days, but it’s all for the best in the long run, because I’m in it for the long haul and I wanna win it! :)

While talking about getting “steroids” for treatment may prompt some to wonder if the ABC hit is about to experience a performance enhancing scandal, she’s likely referring to a cortisone shot, a anti inflammatory steroid as opposed to a muscle building anabolic steroid. Jewel tells readers:

I guess I really over did it on the rehearsal front! My knees have been hurting so badly that I finally broke down and talked to Ty’s knee doctor yesterday. He said I have tendonitis in my knees and that I have to start a course of medicine to try and bring the swelling down. Yuck! It’s mainly my left knee, and I can’t believe I hurt it so badly… Ty warned me I was over doing it, and now he got a big ol’ ‘I told you so’ in. The worst part is that I can’t rehearse for the next couple days. It was just so fun to dance 8 hours a day- especially considering I only had 3 weeks to cram not only for my first dance- cha cha, but to learn the fundamentals of about 6 other dances that I will have to know. But now I’m just worried I won’t even be able to dance! Hopefully these steroids will really do the trick and I can keep bad flare ups at a bay in the future.

Ok, my feet are better… not better, but I’m used to them. Maybe I don’t notice it anymore because my knees hurt so badly! I guess suddenly going from no dancing to 8 hour days was a bit much! Typical of me, I always rush in and get obsessed and over do something! Man, I can hardly walk tonight! I’m absolutely crippled, haha! I hope they get better fast. It’s just so much fun to learn, and the day just flies by. I keep thinking, ok, one more time. Ok, one more time. I really feel lucky to have such a good partner. He has spent his whole life learning to be great at this, and its really something to watch him dance – WITHOUT ME!

When I signed on to the show, I was really worried I wouldn’t get along with my partner. I was worried he’d be arrogant or impatient or critical (’cause that happens), but Dmitry couldn’t be a nicer or a more talented guy. His parents raised him well!

Ty lucked out with his partner too- she is ADORABLE! She’s very good, and also has the cutest personality. She’s 19 and just bursting with energy. Since we spend so many hours a day together, its a good thing we all get along- especially when you are in such a difficult position as this. It’s very nerve wracking to learn something so difficult, so fast, and on camera! If you had a teacher that humiliated you on top of it, it would be that much harder!

Well, I’m really in for it! Holy cow! You guys, this dancing is HARD! I knew it would be when I signed on, but I had no idea what a toll it would take on my feet. People have been dancing for hundreds of years and yet, in all that time, no one figured out how to make comfortable dancing shoes for women?

I have 11 blisters and tears on my feet after two days of dancing. I guess I have very soft and tender feet or something, but my dance shoes are eating my feet alive. The entire left side of my pinky toe has been torn off; it’s just gross. I hope I can keep them taped up enough to keep dancing on them. Speaking of dancing, it’s soooooo hard! I look like such a fool, I can’t even tell you.

Hope your holidays were good, and Happy New Year!! I had a relaxing holiday at home, and also got to start work on my lullaby album. Man, I think you guys are gonna like this one. It’s mostly just solo acoustic and original songs, with a few covers like ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. It may end up being one of my favorites! Recording at home is sooooo nice – it’s relaxed, more creative, and because I don’t have to think about having a “hit single” I really feel free to just do whatever tickles my fancy!!! I will slip you a rough cut of something soon.

Jewel updated fans on her official web site on Tuesday (November 24) while in Hawaii. The singer tells readers:

I came here for a show for Sisco. I sang for their company retreat, it went well, nice folks!
Its lovely having a day off and having Ty here makes it that much better. We spent the day on Maui with some friends who live there; Laird Hamilton, Gabrielle Reese, and their two girls. He’s a big wave surfer and she’s a volleyball player. We met them on the set of the tv show “Fast Cars and Super Stars,” and have stayed in touch ever since.
