Globe magazine spoke with Kathy Guarini, the 53-year-old mother of ‘American Idol’ runner-up Justin Guarini, who revealed she’s “doing well” following her cancer scare. “Justin was very calm and stoic,” says Kathy about the surgery that occurred during the competition’s final week. “He would sit next to me and very quietly tell me what was happening on the show. He really helped me through the horrendous ordeal. The experience brought us closer together.” Justin’s currently recording his debut album and will begin working on a movie with Idol champ Kelly Clarkson in January.

September 5, 2002 – Paula admits to the New York Post that she’s been approached by record labels for a comeback album. “Yes,” she admits. “I am recording. I am writing again. In July, the show’s runner-up was the audience favorite, but only got 11,881 searches for the month on pay-per search engine Overture.com. Last month though, he received 50,320 searches, about four times more than *NSYNC star JC Chasez, and ten times more than Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean. September 10, 2002 – The Morning Call reports Justin will soon make an appearance in Easton – if he shows up to appeal a guilty finding on a summary traffic violation. The new star was found guilty June 12 by District Justice Barbara Schlegel of Bethlehem of following too closely. Bethlehem police issued the citation March 12, when Guarini’s car bumped into a car in the 3000 block of Center Street, at Johnston Drive, Bethlehem.
