Simon Cowell: Chris Daughtry Should Have Won ‘Idol’

Simon Cowell was videotaped at his after party following the last episode of ‘American Idol’ last night. Cowell was joined by three women, none of whom were his girlfriend Terri Seymour of ‘Extra’. When Simon asked the videographer Henry Trappler who should have won, he said Chris Daughtry, and Simon agreed. He said “I’m sure she’ll do very well” regarding Katharine McPhee’s future. No doubt Cowell was remembering the failure of the obese ‘Pop Idol’ season two winner Michele McManus when considering the future of a new “underdog” winner Taylor Hicks, who lacks appeal to pop music’s money demographic – teens. Asked if it matters if she wins on Wednesday, McPhee responded, “I’ve had a few people ask me that. Of course, you want to win. Definitely, I’d love to win. I think it depends on the person. Look at Clay Aiken. He’s done really well for himself and he didn’t win. I don’t know if it really matters. When you’re in the top two… Taylor and I looked at each other and said, ‘Oh my God it doesn’t matter.’… I’m going to be obviously ecstatic if I win, but I will have nothing to complain about if I don’t.” Check out more highlights here.

Katharine McPhee Q&A

MTV News caught up with Katharine McPhee for a Q&A after the singer lost in the finale of ‘American Idol’ last night to Taylor Hicks. Asked what she thought made Hicks a great ‘Idol’, McPhee responded, “He definitely knows how to get a crowd going, and that was something I knew he had from the very beginning. There’s something very exciting about him when he performs, and he’s kinda got the American dream story. He’s like the guy who sung in a bar and has gray hair and he’s 29, but he looks like he’s 39. It’s somebody you wouldn’t think would be an ‘American Idol’ – and then he suddenly gets to win and he’s got a huge career in front of him. Those are things that make up the American dream and ‘American Idol’. [In] the pictures of all the winners … now it’ll be Taylor up there. So it’s good to have another guy up there. It’d been weird if it was girl-girl-girl-girl.” Read more.

‘McPheever’ Fans Predict Bright Future

The Associated Press reports “McPheever” wasn’t enough to carry LA girl Katharine McPhee to victory on ‘American Idol’, but fans predicted she would end up a winner in the music industry. “It’s gonna happen. Everything that she dreamed or wanted is going to happen,” said Leesa Bellesi, a dance instructor and writer from Laguna Beach. Many suggested the ‘Confederate Idol’ factor worked against McPhee, with Taylor Hicks continuing the show’s “Southern strategy” for all of its five seasons. Bellesi added, “Taylor’s been getting so many votes. The South, they really just support the people from their small towns when they make it. There’s a lot happening in California. People have a lot of distractions.”

Katharine Or Taylor? Hicks Should Be Soul Survivor

Lauren Beckham Falcone of the Boston Herald writes: “OK, all you hot and bothered fans who are suffering from the McPheever. Take a Tylenol. Taylor Hicks should be the next ‘American Idol’. Sure, Katharine McPhee can belt out the tunes and look longingly into the camera, but she’s Linda Eder-lite, another pretty girl from Sherman Oaks who thinks it’s a California birthright to become a star… Hicks is the real deal. The 28-year-old, gray-haired honky-tonker is sincere – right down to his spastic stage antics. And what’s wrong with his dancing, anyway?”

Katharine McPhee Motivated After Chris Daughtry Was Ousted

Even after Katharine McPhee survived the week Chris Daughtry was shockingly voted off ‘American Idol’, McPhee felt bruised and used it to motivate her the following week. “It was just as hard for me,” she explained to MTV News. “I felt like, ‘Poor Chris, he should’ve been the one to stay.’ I know in the media it was ‘Oh, Chris was going to win.
