The New York Times profiled Backstreet Boys star Kevin Richardson’s conversion of his 2004 GMC Yukon sport utility vehicle to run on compressed natural gas, a domestically produced fuel that is less polluting than gasoline. The conversion was done by Evo Transportation, a company started by two former entertainment industry executives, David Young and Seth Seaberg, costing the singer $10,000. “I didn’t want to be a hypocrite anymore,” said Richardson, who operates an environmental foundation called Just Within Reach. “I want to walk the walk if I’m going to talk the talk.” Read more, including a photo of Richardson fueling his SUV, here.

Despite the fact that it kills thousands of parents and grandparents every year, colon cancer is one of the most detectable, and if found early enough, most treatable forms of cancer. That is why Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys, who lost his own father to colon cancer, has teamed up with the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) and Genentech to launch “It’s Time To Talk About CRC” — a campaign designed to increase dialogue about colon cancer and educate those at risk about treatment and prevention. “Many people, especially those in our parents’ generation, are too embarrassed to discuss colon cancer because it involves parts of the body that are uncomfortable to talk about,” said Richardson. “My father did not know the importance of talking about the disease or getting screened for it; he was only 49 when it took his life. I am hoping that this program can help prevent others from going through the pain that I went through.”
On February 19th, Backstreet Boys Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell were inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame. During his acceptance speech, Kevin said, “When I was growing up I lived in a small, remote part of Kentucky. I thought, I can’t get out there, I won’t see that place or that place. Music has helped me achieve my dreams and I’ve saw those places and much more, I’ve touched people’s lives with my music.”
Some photos from the ceremony at the Backstreet Dirt Forums have since been removed.

MTV News reported that Backstreet Boys star Kevin Richardson will be promoting David LaChapelle’s Sundance Film Festival documentary on a dance style called ‘Krumped.’ LaChapelle got introduced to it while in Los Angeles shooting the ‘Dirrty’ video for Christina Aguilera. “Apparently the word krumped goes back a long ways, from the black church. When you’re krumped, you’re feeling it. It’s about being brave and doing something with grace,” LaChapelle said. The dance mixes African tribal dances, hip hop, and martial arts.
