KT Tunstall Hates What Simon Cowell Has Done To Music

KT Tunstall

KT Tunstall is no fan of reality singing competitions, which the Scottish singer songwriter says is acting as a barrier to real artists getting record deals. She told the Daily Mail:

I hate what Simon Cowell has done to the music industry because he’s clogged it up with all these people and it’s stopping real artists getting deals. ‘The X Factor’ isn’t about music, it’s about entertainment, and in that regard it’s remarkable, because it brings families together in front of the television. Personally, I’d rather have stayed on the dole than audition for a show like that, but I would perform on it because I want millions of people to hear my music. It’s something I have thought long and hard about.

KT Tunstall Slams Shakira’s ‘She Wolf’ Video

KT Tunstall vodka

KT Tunstall can have a laugh with a giant sized vodka bottle, but she’s not in a joking mood when it comes to her concern about women in music lately doing raunchy music videos which are seen by children. KT singled out Shakira and her ‘She Wolf’ music video. “The Shakira video actually shocked me and I am not easily shocked,” the singer songwriter told Scotland’s Daily Record. “I was like, ‘You are shoving your lady bits in my face. I didn’t ask for that’. It is shocking but it seems they need to shock to get attention.”

KT Tunstall ‘Push That Knot Away’

KT Tunstall is offering fans a listen to a song from her upcoming album ‘Tiger Suit’. “There’s no WAY I could wait til September before you heard anything,” the Scottish singer songwriter says. “The song’s called ‘Push That Knot Away’ – it’s a signature track on the album for me, as it was one of my first attempts at mixing a picked acoustic tune with electronica. Big, magic step for me. Hope you dig it, as well as some little snippets of the film I’ve made over the last year which you’ll be able to get your mitts on when the record comes out.” Watch a video including the song, featuring KT performing and hanging out in the studio with her bandmates, via YouTube below.

KT Tunstall On Being In Character, Love Of Art

KT Tunstall met up with andPOP at the Drake Hotel in Toronto, where the singer songwriter talked about being in character on her albums and sometimes on stage if she’s in a bad mood, her love for painting, and not having to be told if a piece of art is good.

“The character that I embody as a musician really only exists in pictures,” KT said about her character’s progress from her prior album. “Because I consider the recorded album very different from the live thing. It sounds different, I can go different places with it. I don’t feel any pressure to just completely reconstruct what you hear on an album on a stage, and in fact I would definitely error on the side of deliberately changing it so that you go and see something different, and shaking it up regularly. I don’t want to play a character on stage, I want to be myself. If you’ve had a really, really bad day, you don’t want to go on stage and just be a cow, you have to play a character to an extend that you don’t. But a gig usually cheers me up if I’ve had a bad day anyway, so it kind of works itself out.”

Luke Bullen Proposed To KT Tunstall On Christmas Day, She Said Yes

KT Tunstall talks about getting a Christmas Day marriage proposal from Luke Bullen

KT Tunstall has revealed that she is set to marry her band’s drummer Luke Bullen after he proposed on Christmas Day.

“So 11 o’clock on Christmas morning, the doorbell goes and I’m all worried it’s the paps wanting a shot of ‘KT’s hand-knitted Christmas day outfit with matching headband and slippers’ (I’m joking), and it’s Luke, suited and booted. With all his bags. And a little box. Wrapped with a ribbon,” Tunstall wrote on her official web site’s diary on Thursday (January 10). “He PROPOSED!!! AAAAAAAAARRR!! He’d been to see my folks a month before to ask their permission, so everyone knew – I’m slightly worried at how good they are at acting now! Being an opportunist, I obviously said yes, and we’re gonna do the deed way up in the wild north before the end of the year. It feels smashing. I never thought it would make me feel so good. I’m tempted to be really sad and post a pic of my ring – it’s gorgeous! Keep an eye out for a little sparkle as I’m playing those chords…”
