Liberty X Star Almost Gets Carjacked

April 14, 2003 – The Mirror reports Liberty X star Jessica Taylor and her boyfriend Stuart Manning were almost carjacked earlier this month. The couple were driving round Trafalgar Square in London when a bunch of men surrounded their car. A source said, “They jumped on the bonnet and started thumping the car and rocking it. Jessica and Stuart were a bit shaken up and went to the police to report it.”

Liberty X Move To Immobilize Phone Crime

March 29, 2003 – The Mirror reports Liberty X revealed that many of their fans had been assaulted during mobile phone thefts, and as a result, the group decided to become the faces of Immobilize Phone Crime – an initiative which aims to curb the amount of mobiles stolen. Jessica Taylor told the paper, “If you call 08701 123123, your phone gets cut off straightaway. Some kids get their phones nicked as a form of bullying and we’re getting the message across that it’s a crime and they can do something about it.” She added, “I’ve lost so many phones. It’s such a pain when it happens and you don’t know who could have got hold of it.”

Liberty X Want A Little Bit Less

March 26, 2003 – Liberty X have told Radio 1 how they’re getting a bit of unwanted attention from underaged girls flashing them at their gigs. “We don’t have a problem with it, as long as they’re over a certain age. It was a bit disturbing cos this one was about 16,” a member of the band said. “A few fans have sort of flashed their boobs at the gigs and stuff, and it’s a bit shocking but nice all the same. So it’s not a problem, but it is a problem if you’re underage!”

Liberty X Girls Wear Skin-Tight PVC Outfits At Concert

The girls of Liberty X wore skin-tight PVC bondage trousers for the last of their London gigs on Saturday night. Michelle Heaton tells the Sunday People, “They’re so tight we need to use talc to get them on. If you don’t use it they stick to you and then you can’t get them off. We’ve been doing aerobics classes every day so we don’t put on any weight. Even with an inch on your waist you won’t get them on.”

Liberty X Star Says Reality Pop TV Has Seen Its Day

March 15, 2003 – Pop Idol Will Young and Popstars ‘losers’ Liberty X were winners at the Brit Awards, but Liberty X’s Kevin Simm has added his voice to the fears the music industry have about new pop stars chosen through a television show. “I think reality television pop programs have honestly had their day,” he admitted to the Scottish Daily Record. “I thought the format of ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ was diabolical. That was its downfall. Getting the girls and boys to slag each other off just turned me completely off. They should have concentrated more on the music and not making the hopefuls take pot shots at each other.”

March 1, 2003 – Manchester Online spoke with Kelli Young of Liberty X about how their Popstars losing band once dubbed Flopstars is now the band selling out venues while Hear’Say spun into obscurity. “We decided to be positive about the whole Popstars experience and just thought, ‘let’s go for it,’ because we were so strong together and all really got on. It seemed far more natural to stick together than go it alone,” remembers Kelli.

February 11, 2003 – Wes kicked off Radio 1’s brand new Official Chart Show on Sunday with Liberty X performing live. Tatu stay at No.1 for a second week with ‘All The Things She Said’. The highest new entry went to Justin Timberlake with ‘Cry Me a River’ at No.2. Audio has since been removed.

Liberty X Unimpressed With Brit’s Singles Shortlist

January 15, 2003 – Michelle from Liberty X told Radio 1 she isn’t impressed with the Best Single selection for this year’s Brit Awards. “I just think it’s a bit of a shame that all of the other nominees are cover versions apart from one of Gareth Gates’, and being Best Single category, I just feel as though it should be an original song,” she said. The group’s ‘Just A Little’ is nominated in the category.

January 2, 2003 – The Sun reports the girls of Liberty X, notably Kelli Young, were bombarded with underwear by troops at a show the band played on New Year’s Eve in Bosnia. A group spokesman said: “New Year’s Eve was great and the band loved every minute. The girls had pants with phone numbers on thrown at them all night! They thought it was hilarious and a great way to bring in 2003.”

December 14, 2002 – The Mirror reports that while Liberty X was enjoying time off from their Rumba tour of Australia, they ran into trouble at a theme park. Just as they began to enjoy a thrilling ride, a freak storm caused a power outage and they were stranded in torrential rain at the top of the ride. Then when they finally got back down, park workers replaced their wet clothes with theme-park merchandise.

September 16, 2002 – Radio 1’s Jamie Theakston chatted with Liberty X and asked Michelle Heaton about reports she was dating Blue star Duncan James. “There was something in the paper about me and him because we went on a night out with a few people and got into the back of a taxi to go to a club. There were a few people in the cab, but they just took a picture of me and him and because of that picture people thought we were seeing each other which we weren’t, never have been and never will. May 26, 2002 – Andrea McVeigh of the Belfast Telegraph reports Tony Lundon of Liberty X admits the band’s recent chart topping single is a relief to their earlier days being labeled as ‘flopstars’ because of losing out to Hear’Say in the Popstars TV show. “It’s the best feeling in the whole world, and hopefully it means we’ll be around for a long time to come. It will also help a lot in getting rid of any of the ‘reject’ or ‘flopstars’ labels we’ve been dogged with in the past.”

When asked who the group would like to work with, Michelle Heaton responded, “I would have to pick Justin Timberlake. For artistic reasons only – I don’t fancy him, he’s not my type! March 4, 2002 – Liberty have a new name after they were required to change the group’s name when a judge ruled that a Nineties funk band owned the original. A reader of the Sun came up with the name Liberty X. Their label owner Richard Branson said, “They certainly have the X-factor.”

Fire Alarm Interrupts UK Pop Stars

Someone at the hotel Blue, Liberty, and others on the Smash Hits tour set off the hotel’s fire alarm Wednesday night. The boys in Blue were partying in the bar and one rushed to help Jessica from Liberty as she revealed, “Simon gave me a piggy back down the stairs from the seventh floor, which was very sweet of him because I didn’t have any shoes. We were tucked up in bed, and I thought it was my alarm, and I was like looking at my alarm going, ‘Stop! Stop!’ and then I realized it was echoing through the whole hotel.”

November 14, 2001 – The guys and gals from Liberty talked with Top of The Pops where Kevin from the band was asked if wild cheers from fans were because his fly was open… Kevin replied, “They wouldn’t be screaming – they’d be peeping to see something. November 20, 2001 – The Sun reports Virgin exec’s have shelved any plans on British chart topping band Blue to make a run in the United States following the outrageous comments by Lee Ryan concerning the September 11 terror attacks. Amongst the other questions were the bands thoughts on U.K. titans Westlife, where Simon replied, “We are completely different to Westlife. We are not a pop group and just do our own thing. Liberty Pulls Out All The Stops Sexually In New Video

October 16, 2001 – The Sun is reporting that the new video for Liberty’s Doin’ It is so steamy that parts will have to be censored. An insider on the set revealed, “It was a really sexually charged shoot – every time you looked somebody was touching somebody else.” Look for the video to be out November 19.

September 29, 2001 – The Sun has a transcript of the band’s chat with the paper after the group bounced back from a Popstars rejection. When asked about their thoughts of Kym from Hear-Say and her ‘bitchy’ comments about the group, Jessica responded, “I knew Kym and Suzanne as we all started off at the Northern auditions but didn’t spend that much time together.
