Lily Allen is being branded a hypocrite after copying a posting by Mike Masnick of Techdirt.com without attribution on her It’s Not Alright blog with the British pop singer is leading a fight against copyright infringment of music by illegal file sharing.
“The fact that she is trying to claim that such copying is bad, while doing it herself suggests something of a double standard, unfortunately,” Masnick told TorrentFreak.com. “Also, for someone so concerned about the impact of ‘piracy’ I’m quite surprised that she neither credited nor linked to our post. Apparently, what she says and how she acts are somewhat different. Still, Lilly, glad we could help you make a point… even if it wasn’t the one you thought you were making.”
Lily has since written in response to the criticism:

Lily Allen checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace on Monday (September 14), sharing her thoughts on the dangers the British music industry is facing due to illegal file sharing. Lily writes:
I haven’t written on here for a while but I’ve taken the time to write this as I think music piracy is having a dangerous effect on British music, but some really rich and successful artists like Nick Mason from Pink Floyd and Ed O’Brien from Radiohead don’t seem to think so. Last week in an article in the Times these guys from huge bands said file sharing music is fine. It probably is fine for them. They do sell-out arena tours and have the biggest Ferrari collections in the world. For new talent though, file sharing is a disaster as it’s making it harder and harder for new acts to emerge.

Lily Allen chatted with Geoff Lloyd on Absolute Radio’s Hometime Show the other day. The pop star complained about being tired and her record company not paying for a stylist. Lily then presented Lloyd with a package of Jammie Dodgers before talking about how she injured her back falling off a stage, only to get an epidural which wore off midway through a concert, leading her to tears on stage. Later, the pop singer voiced her concern with the clashes between West Ham and Millwall fans at Upton Park, especially since her brother’s girlfriend Jaime Winstone was in attendance.
