Liz Phair took part in a AIM Interview with KimInMusic, promoting her current tour and new album ‘Somebody’s Miracle’. Asked if she is big into the holidays, Phair responded, “I love the holidays. I’m planning a giant Herculean effort to bring all the disparate elements of my family together. Don’t get me started on simmering apple cider spices and wreaths and eggnog!”
Pop acts on television this week include Alanis Morissette, who performs on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ on Tuesday and ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ on Wednesday; Natasha Bedingfield, who performs on ‘Last Call with Carson Daly’ on Tuesday; Liz Phair, who performs on ‘Last Call’ on Thursday; The Click Five, who perform on ‘Live with Regis and Kelly’ on Thursday; and James Blunt, who is the musical guest on the next ‘Saturday Night Live’.
Liz Phair spoke with the LA Daily News about the occasional podcasts posted at her official website. “The podcasts are fully goofy,” Phair admits. “Sometimes I tell funny stories that are memories, and sometimes I read funny poems. Like, the last podcast I did a poem about the pyramid at the Luxor in Vegas, and I had (boyfriend and accompanist) Dino (Meneghin) slow my voice down so I sound kind of like a transvestite. It’s just funny. It’s, like, my creative outlet right now.”
Liz Phair tells Billboard.com she’s found a positive outlet for downtime while on the road. “I’m all about podcasting,” Phair said. “I’m totally fixated on it. It’s what I’m into. We usually do a couple of live songs and then there are interviews. We’re going to do it every Friday. It might be a little late here and there, but pretty much (it’s up) every Friday.”
Liz Phair is featured on Rolling Stone Originals, where the singer performed an acoustic set that included ‘Everything To Me’, ‘May Queen’, ‘Soap Star Joe’, ‘Somebody’s Miracle’, and ‘Why Can’t I’. Check it out at rhapsody.com.
During VH1’s Big in 03′ Awards, they interviewed Liz Phair about The Madonna and Britney Spears / Christina Aguilera kiss, and who she’d prefer. Phair responded “Now did Madonna choose Britney over Christina? I know I would.”
In the latest issue of Blender magazine, they ask various artists what the best songs to download are and Liz Phair chose Christina Aguliera’s ‘Beautiful’ as one of her choices. “I, among millions, commented on how bizarre Christina has looked of late, and wondered why she does it,” she remarked. “This was her answer (‘Beautiful’). It shut you up and put you in your place.”
Like Jewel, 30-year-old Liz Phair is looking to go pop on her forthcoming album, with the self-titled effort due June 24th. Phair tells Entertainment Weekly, “I didn’t want to be some ’90s act that was great in my 20s and never did anything else. People are like, ‘Don’t be commercial, then. Just be…Wilco.’ And that’s one way to live. But even when I made ‘Guyville,’ I was hating indie then. The whole album was about how much I hated indie. I was sick to fu**ing death of that snobbery. You know, I liked radio hits my whole life, including when I was cool. When Shakira goes [sings]’Underneath your clothes…,’ that works on me. So here’s your question in life: Do you acknowledge who you are even if people don’t like you for it? Even if people say, ‘That’s so lame’? Should I pretend to be cool so that you will approve of me? After I had my kid, the revelation I had was, Life is incredibly short. I like who I am. And I’m just gonna like what I like and go for what I want to go for. It’s simple.” Read more.
