Marie Digby updated fans on her blog at MySpace (@mariedigby) on Thursday (April 2), talking about a delay in her second U.S. album. The singer songwriter tells readers:
You guys probably don’t know this but I have been without a manager for 6 months (and for the whole making of both the U.S. and Japanese albums). That may not sound so hard but trust me .. it is. A manager is supposed to help take care all of your business so that you can concentrate on just making art and being a musician.
Because I haven’t had a manager, I’ve had to take on that responsibility and it’s been quite a challenge. I’m looking so hard to find a new manager but for the time being, it’s just me.
The album is completed but I am just doing the final touches on the artwork. I just handed in my album ‘thank you’s and there is of course, a special thank you for all of you.. the most special thank you… You’ll see it in a few months :)
My album was originally supposed to come out in May but I asked for it to be pushed back because I need more time to find a manager and make sure that we have the perfect set up for the album. I need to make sure that everyone knows about it before just releasing it!
There’s so much to releasing an album guys… I had no idea but it takes careful planning and great promotion. Although, I’m really lucky with what’s happened on YouTube, it’s put so much of the control in my hands because I can say whatever I want and present my music however I’d like without having to filter it through anyone. That’s what I love.. and I think that’s why I have been able to create such a special relationship with so many of you.
Marie Digby checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace (@mariedigby) on Friday (January 30), talking about her love of astronomy and the follow-up to her debut album ‘Unfold’. The Los Angeles based singer songwriter tells readers:
The recording process for this album is now complete! I had a very intense and difficult meeting with my label to choose which songs actually made the album. I made so many wonderful friends during the making of this album and it was hard to choose … some people’s songs made it, some didn’t. I love them all.. it was kind of heart breaking but I know that all songs have a way of surfacing over time.
If you guys are interested, some of the incredibly talented people I worked with are on my top friends and you should check them out …
‘Unfold’ is my debut album.. it is the album of my dreams. It chronicles my life from age 15-23. It is a page in the story of my life …
For this next album, I wanted to try something different. The lyrics would remain my truth, my story but I wanted a whole new landscape sonically. I wanted beautiful melodies, and I wanted beats That is the concept for this album.
Marie Digby checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace (@mariedigby) on Wednesday (December 31), returning to Los Angeles after working on her Japanese album in Tokyo. The singer songwriter tells readers:
The hardest part about coming back home from Japan? jet lag. It doesn’t matter what time I go to sleep, I am WIDE awake at 5 am. :)
At least now the sun is up… the depressing thing is waking up while it’s still completely black outside !! lol
Anyway, I thought there’s no better time for me to wish you all a Happy New Year!! I can’t believe all that has transpired in the last twelve months. What a lucky girl I am… At the beginning of this year, I was still in limbo… wondering when my album would actually come out. All of this wonderful stuff started coming my way with the sudden success of my silly YouTube videos… I was overwhelmed by the support and I knew that my album wouldn’t have a chance without that. Thank you to all of you who have ever taken the time to listen, to watch, to write. I hope my best way of really thanking you is to keep making great music that you all will enjoy. That’s why I am so excited about this next album!!
Marie Digby checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace (@mariedigby) on Sunday (December 21). The singer songwriter tells readers:
I’ve been in the studio now for about two weeks and we are finally wrapping up the recording for the Japanese album. Just about done with all vocals for 12 songs!! I’m so happy with the way that it’s turning out. I had a lot of worries about whether or not I’d be able to pull off doing a whole album in my second language.. if I could learn the songs quickly enough.. etc but it’s all turning out fine! The team I have out here is amazing. My producer Satori Shiraishi (top friend on my page) is fantastic and everyone else has been super helpful. I hope this is just the start of doing more domestic albums in Japan.
Marie Digby posted several video updates while in Japan. The first clip features Marie “kind of freaking out” at the studio because she wasn’t prepared. She then showed some Japanese lyrics she’s been trying to learn. The next clip has Marie in the sound room with some people listening to a Japanese song. The last clip has Marie recording the scene at a crosswalk in Tokyo while in a cab.
“Everyone, I’m kind of freaking out right now,” Digby confessed. “I’m in Tokyo doing this Japanese album, and I’ve been so busy that I haven’t really had a chance to learn the songs that well. I just got to the studio and there’s a live band here and this studio is really nice, and I’m not prepared. I’m kind of freaking out, so I thought I should do a video to remind myself to be more prepared.”
The videos have since been removed.
Marie Digby checked in with fans on her YouTube channel while in her hotel room in Tokyo, Japan.
“Hi YouTube, it’s Marie Digby here, wanting to wish you a very, very happy holidays,” Digby said. “I am in my hotel room in Tokyo, so it’s very bland, holiday like unfestive, sorry. Blank whitewall. Probably the most exciting thing in the room right now is the fruit plate: apple, kiwi and I don’t know what this is.”
“Happy holidays fellow YouTubers,” she said. “I hope you have a fabulous rest of the year, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, whatever you celebrate, hope you have a great one, and can’t wait for 2009.”

I can’t believe I’m finally heading back to Japan. This will be my first Christmas in Japan too! But I have so much work to do while I’m there… I’m a little stressed, I’m not gonna lie! But I’m excited too. Next year is gonna be BIG. HUGE. GINORMOUS! and that really doesn’t look like a real word.
Marie Digby updated fans on her blog at MySpace (@mariedigby) on Wednesday (December 3), discussing progress on her follow-up to ‘Unfold’. The Los Angeles based singer songwriter tells readers:
To give you guys a little update, I have been in the studio every day of Nov. except for Thanksgiving .. writing songs for my next album (which should be out around next summer!). It’s been such an amazing process to experiment with different sounds and collaborate with other creative people! I am DYING to start letting you guys hear what I’m working on. What I was hoping to do was to put up a video with a clip of a new song.. BUT… the computer problems unfortunately persist and even though I got a new MacBook.. . The CAMERA Doesn’t work!!! I am bringing the computer to the Mac store on Friday to see what they can do. I am having the worst luck with computers lately!
Marie Digby updated fans on her blog at MySpace (@mariedigby) on Thursday (October 30), still dealing with her MacBook short-circuiting after her mother accidentally spilled a glass of milk on it. The singer songwriter tells readers:
As soon as I get my new computer.. I want to bring you guys into the studio. Every single day, I’ve been tucked away in a studio (I was there from 1pm – 2am last night !) writing new songs for the next record. I am SO excited about the stuff that is coming out of me… and I wish you could all see it as it happens. So much has happened to me over this last year and I feel like I’ve got a lot to say and a new perspective.
Marie Digby checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace (@mariedigby) on Monday (October 20), explaining why she hasn’t been posting anything lately. The Los Angeles based singer songwriter tells readers:
I’ve been getting a lot of emails from you guys going.. ‘where are you !!’… ?? I have some unfortunate news… There was a little accident with my MacBook. I was working on my computer at our kitchen table… My mother was eating lunch and drinking a huge glass of milk. I forget what we were talking about but she got excited and accidentally knocked the entire glass of milk onto my computer!! It basically flooded the computer and started dripping out of the other end… The computer made a funny noise (like it was literally dying)… And turned off.. I knew that was bad news.
So basically folks, my MacBook is completely dead. I am using my mom’s laptop from what seems to be from like 1992.. For real, it’s probably at least 8 years old. I am doing my best to figure out how to buy a new one… But I might take me a minute!!
RIP MacBook Pro… You served me well.
