Marina and the Diamonds (Marina Diamandis) is out with a video talking about the themes and writing process behind ‘Electra Heart’, the Welsh pop artist’s second album that was released last month on Atlantic Records.

“I didn’t really discuss love at all on the first album because a lot of songs that are about love are pretty cliche,” Marina said, referring to her 2010 debut album ‘The Family Jewels’. “I suppose I’ve written about it in a particular kind of way, splitting the album into two moods, one of which is very hesitant about being seen as a victim. You kind of get this impression of someone who is quite tough and then the other half of the album is quite raw and explicit in its honesty.”

Marina and the Diamonds is out with an acoustic video for her single ‘Starring Role’. The track is off the Welsh singer-songwriter’s second studio album ‘Electra Heart’, released in the U.S. on July 17th on Elektra Records. Marina also recently announced her ‘Lonely Hearts Club’ headline tour and will be joining Coldplay on dates in July and August.

Marina and the Diamonds (Marina Diamandis) is out with the music video to her new single ‘Primadonna’, the first release from the Welsh singer-songwriter’s second studio album ‘Electra Heart’, out on Elektra Records this summer.

‘Electra Heart’ was written and recorded in London and Los Angeles over the last 18 months while on tour. Featuring new self-written tracks, Marina handpicked a close group of collaborators to write and produce with including Dr Luke, Rick Nowels, Liam Howe, Greg Kurstin and Diplo.

Marina said about the new album, “It’s an ode to dysfunctional love. I based the project around character types commonly found in love stories, film and theatre, usually ones associated with power and control in love, as opposed to weakness or defeat. I guess it was a way of dealing with the embarrassment that, for the first time in my life, I got ‘played’. Rejection is a universally embarrassing topic and ‘Electra Heart’ is my response to that. It is a frank album.”

Marina is now set to embark on a worldwide tour as the main support on Coldplay’s upcoming tour. U.S. dates below:

Marina and the Diamonds (Marina Diamandis) reckons she won’t ever go on ‘The X Factor’ after the autotune scandal, but says she’s looking forward to touring America. “I would never do ‘X Factor’. Not in this country,” she told ITN. “Not after that. I’m not even laughing at it. I think it’s terrible. That’s proof that we as a nation are treated as idiots. That’s what we’re being fed. It’s dumbing everything down for everybody, even more so if that’s possible with ‘X Factor’.” Watch the clip via YouTube below.
