On May 17th, I attended the Wango Tango with hopes of seeing Paula Abdul on stage. When she got on stage to announce the American Idol finalists, my heart began to pound as I began to scream, cheering and jumping up and down exclusively for the love of Ms. Abdul. Pop Acts On TV: Mandy Moore, Paula Abdul, Geri Halliwell

Pop acts scheduled to appear on talk television this week include ousted American Idol Charles Grigsby on MTV’s Total Request Live on Monday, Mandy Moore appears on the Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn on Monday, Paula Abdul and Cris Judd appear on the Wayne Brady Show on Thursday, Deborah Gibson appears on The View on Friday, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and *NSYNC star Chris Kirkpatrick appear on the Wayne Brady Show on Friday, and Kelly Osbourne appears on TRL on Friday.

Justin Guarini Denies Paula Abdul Romance

American Idol runner-up Justin Guarini spoke with Ed Condran of the Philadelphia Inquirer and shot down rumors he had been dating Idol judge Paula Abdul. “Oh, come on now. We never dated,” Guarini insisted. “We became friends from the show. She was so wonderfully supportive of me. It was really nice after how the show was done that I could sit and talk with her. She gave such wonderful advice. To people in my generation, there’s something about her. She is Paula Abdul! She has gone through the pop-star thing. She’s a warm, wonderful person.”

‘Idol’ Chatter With Justin And Tamyra

October 19, 2002 – Walt Belcher of The Tampa Tribune caught up with ‘American Idol’ finalists Tamyra Gray and Justin Guarini to talk about life after the hit show and their current tour. Guarini says the finalists have become even closer because “the pressure to compete is gone and there no longer is a fear of losing one of us each week.” Meanwhile, Tamyra says the show’s winner Kelly Clarkson “had an amazing performance and deserved to win.” The full story at has since been removed.

Paula Abdul Recording Comeback Album

September 5, 2002 – Paula admits to the New York Post that she’s been approached by record labels for a comeback album. “Yes,” she admits. “I am recording. I am writing again. I’m going to do a kick-butt dance record.” Meanwhile, fellow ‘American Idol’ judge Simon Cowell, not interested in signing Abdul himself, also revealed that he decided not to sign Christina Christian. He did sign Tamyra Gray though. “Obviously, we’re not going to let that one get away,” he said.

Paula Admits To Getting Comic Help On ‘American Idol’

Access Hollywood spoke with ‘American Idol’ judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson about the hit show. Asked if she really did hire a comedy writer, Paula Abdul says she knew a comedian who gave her one joke, but that was it. As for the near fight Simon and Randy had, Mr. Nasty commented, “He looked in my eyes and thought, ‘I don’t want to take this guy out.’ He came to my dressing room scratching like a puppy wanting to apologize.”

Celebrities Including Ice T Opine On ‘American Idol’

August 20, 2002 – Rapper actor Ice T is amongst the celebrity judges recruited by Extra TV to weigh in on ‘American Idol’ and who they think might win. Ice T picked Justin Guarini but said, “Justin, get him out of my face. I can’t stand his hair and I don’t want to see any more of his shirts.” Meanwhile, Gloria Gaynor likes Tamyra Gray, and Lorna Luft picks Kelly Clarkson. Video has been removed.

Ryan Seacrest On KTLA

August 20, 2002 – Ryan Seacrest, host of ‘American Idol’ stopped by KTLA to talk about the hit reality show on Tuesday (August 20). Ryan compared his co-host Brian Dunkelman to Carson Daly, and the KTLA host compared Ryan to Kermit the Frog. The also quized Ryan on his still being single. Ryan talked about the remaining contestants and whether he thinks they’ll have much of a career after the show. Video has since been removed.

‘American Idol’ To Fight Back Against Phone Slammers

August 20, 2002 – The New York Post reports the producers of ‘American Idol’ and Fox are monitoring the “phone slammers” trying to sway the outcome of the show – and will take action if the callers have an impact on the show. An insider said, “They’ve been monitoring it and obviously they will get involved if it’s somehow affecting the vote.”

Paula Abdul Most Searched ‘American Idol’ Judge/Host

August 12, 2002 – We ran down the guys and gals of ‘American Idol’, now we’ll look at the judges and hosts search engine interest. Paula Abdul leads the pack in searches on pay-per search engine during the month of July, getting 27,398 searches, easily enough to beat out Simon Cowell who had 10,582 searches. Randy Jackson was the least searched for judge with 2,521 queries, getting fewer votes than show host Ryan Seacrest, but more queries with 4,410 than the other host Brian Dunkleman, who was the least searched of the five at 659 queries.

Paula Admits She & Simon Were Reprimanded For Bickering

August 9, 2002 – Entertainment Tonight quizzed ‘American Idol’ judge Paula Abdul on whether reports that the bickering between her and Simon Cowell got so out of hand that an executive producer reprimanding both of them were true. “Actually, that did happen, it did happen, pretty funny though because I sat in the room — well, I beg of you guys to watch every single show,” she shared. “I made a promise to myself I would never initiate or provoke anyone so you’re talking to the wrong person here.”

Paula Abdul Hires Joke Writer To Battle Simon Cowell

August 5, 2002 – Billy Masters of weighed in on ‘American Idol’ in his column today. Billy says sources at Fox tell him that Paula Abdul has resorted to hiring a joke writer for her “witty quips” to Simon. Billy has switched his prediction of a winner from RJ Helton to Tamyra Gray, though he’d love to see Kelly Clarkson win.

Extra TV caught up with the ‘American Idol’ judges to get insight on the war of words between Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul. Simon commented, “Truthfully, I think there are times when I quite like her and I think there are times when I actually despise her. Simple as that.” As for whether their battles are a sign of sexual tension, Simon said, “From her to me, without a question. She wants me, definitely.”

July 24, 2002 – Entertainment Tonight spoke with ‘American Idol’ judge Paula Abdul about how tough it’s been for her to play her part when contestants get criticized or voted off. “I feel like I know these kids now,” says Paula. “It’s been such an amazing journey and such a transformation. It just breaks my heart to see their hearts broken.” As for the show’s chief critic Simon Cowell? “‘American Idol’ doesn’t work without Simon’s energy. [He’s] the yin to the yang. I’ve told him, ‘You’re an extremely important part of that show.’ And he says, ‘Well, thank you, Paula, now you’re saying something sensible.'”
