matchbox twenty singer Rob Thomas visited the Kyle and Jackie O. show the other day. He talked about how flying in planes has affected his skin and using moisturizer, how he met his wife Marisol, how he gets along with the in-laws, whether he’s “at war” with anyone in the music biz, being quoted out of context – including with Jon Bon Jovi – who he had to call ahead of time, the “skeleton epidemic” in America with young female celebs, sex tapes of the stars and whether he worries about joining that crowd — and that of course led to the big rumor about Marisol catching him in bed with Tom Cruise. matchbox twenty singer Rob Thomas was on Fox FM in Melbourne, Australia to chat with Matt & Jo. Rob talked about doing Live 8, joked about Anna Nicole Smith and Paris Hilton being part of the event, hating awards shows – especially the MTV Video Music Awards, and he cleared up the rumor he was caught in bed with Tom Cruise. He called it an “A-List” rumor that he’s proud of, since it spread around the globe and he found out after his friends and bandmates. He wasn’t worried about being considered gay, but was upset to be called a Scientologist. Auspipe.com has since removed the audio.
Viewers and critics complained, and now MTV Networks has announced that it will broadcast ten hours of Live 8 performance footage. The commercial-free broadcast will feature sets from Sir Paul McCartney, Rob Thomas, Maroon 5 and many more, airing on MTV and VH1. Viewers can also expect to see performances by Madonna, Dido, Shakira, Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams and others. VH1 will air its Live 8 highlights from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, while MTV’s batch of highlights will roll out from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Matchbox twenty frontman Rob Thomas is out with the music video to his new single ‘This Is How A Heart Breaks’, from his solo debut ‘Something To Be’. Watch it online at below the fold.
‘Top Of The Pops’ caught up with matchbox twenty singer Rob Thomas and asked what kinds of trashy television he watches. “I’ll watch anything trashy, I can’t help it. I think everybody does,” he admitted. “Like yesterday, I’m sitting in my room and I was watching ‘The Fabulous Life Of: Christina Aguilera’, you know. I mean I don’t give a thing about the fabulous life of Christina Aguilera but somehow I’m like, fixed to it, I can’t stop.”
Thomas added, “But you get stuck in it. When they flick past it, its just, I think cos it doesn’t take a commitment. It’s easy to have on while I’m doing other things and then the next thing I know I’m paying much more attention to it than I thought you would. And the next thing you know, I’m a Christina Aguilera genius I know everything about her.”

In an interview with The Sun, Rob Thomas admitted he took a huge risk turning his back on the pop/rock sound that made matchbox twenty famous. “When you do something that is so far from what you are known for, it could be career suicide,” the singer said. “But then when it goes the opposite way and becomes one of the biggest things that you have ever done it really is a sense of ‘well, fu**, I was right about that one!’ It would have been easier to just go out and do what I’m known for. But unless there is a chance of failure there’s no fun. The only idea I had going into this was that I wanted to make a really diverse record. I didn’t want to make an album where I could say ‘this is harder than Matchbox’ or ‘this is my pop record’. I just wanted to have 12 good songs regardless of genre.”
Matchbox twenty singer Rob Thomas phoned in to the Steve & Maria show on WBLI FM in Long Island on Tuesday (May 31) from his house in Westchester. Rob talked about becoming domesticated now that he’s married, tour plans, being part of the Latin culture now, and the kind of guys his wife likes. The 4-minute interview audio has since been removed from wbli.com.
Rob Thomas spoke with Rolling Stone in a Q&A and was asked about formerly being much heavier than he is today. “I was the only person ever with a coke habit to gain fifty pounds,” Thomas said. “We did an MTV Live From the 10 Spot, and that was the first time I’d had a good look at myself in a while. Not only was I heavy, but I had dark eyes, my face was all puffy. That was pretty fu**ed up. I’d met my future wife at that point, and she showed the tape to her mother. Her mother was like, ‘Why the fu** are you going out with that guy? He’s ugly!'”
