Sky Ferreira appeared on Belly of the Beast with Hannah Rad recently on EVR.com, where the singer talked about catching the attention of Bloodshy and Avant on MySpace, how many tracks fans can expect on her full-length debut album and teaming up with Shirley Manson on ‘Red Lips’.
“I basically talked a lot of sh** with them. I was like, I can do everything, even though I couldn’t do that much besides sing and write kind of, not my best, but I tried, and I got a record deal from it.”
Talking about plans to release her debut album in 2013, Sky said, “If it was up to me, I’d put 16 (tracks on the album), but I obviously can’t do that. So like 12 to 14, but I’ll say 12. Actually I’m trying to figure out how to do it, because half of it is dance pop, and the other half is stripped down with Jon Brion.
Talking about the Manson penned track ‘Red Lips’, featured on Sky’s second EP ‘Ghost’ which was released last month, Sky explained, “It was originally her song from her solo album, and she was like, ‘Do you want it?’ I was like I’m not gonna say no to Shirley Manson.” As for meeting the Garbage singer, she explained, “My friend Greg was working with her on a shoot, and somehow my name came up during the shoot, and she was like, ‘I know Sky. She used to work with Greg Kurstin and I’ve know her for years’, even though I’ve never met her but she’s known about me since MySpace. She knew me from MySpace. That’s kind of how it happened and he kind of, and this is when I wasn’t doing too well, I was in record label hell, I got shelved and I couldn’t go anywhere obviously and I didn’t know what to do. She kind of was like, ‘Record this song and maybe something will happen.’ So I recorded it and it came out.”
