Westlife topped the UK singles chart for the 14th time in their career with ‘The Rose’, edging fellow Irishmen U2, whose collaboration with Green Day – ‘The Saints Are Coming’ – rose from six to two. All Saints climbed from 11 to three with their comeback single ‘Rock Steady’, while Madonna’s ‘Jump’ entered at number nine.

Jodi Albert tells The People her relationship with Westlife lover Kian Egan is strong enough that jealousy isn’t an issue when she dresses in provocative undies as hooker Hayley in TV sitcom ‘Respectable’. “He knows that wearing revealing gear in this series is part of the deal,” the 23-year-old said. “But he’s not jealous. Despite the loss of Brian McFadden and a sour U.S. market for boybands, Westlife star Mark Feehily tells Neil Sean of Sky News the group hopes to make another bid for an American release. “We’re all still focused and like the idea of going global,” Feehily said. “We have been offered a few deals in the past but the latest one has just come at the right time.”
The People reports Westlife’s visit to a safari park in Liverpool turned scary after a 15ft white rhino took exception to the band’s vehicle, attempting to charge them and their driver. The boy band’s guide had to speed away in the car to avoid a collision. “It certainly caused a bit of excitement in the car and we had to beat a hasty retreat,” Knowsley Safari Park boss David Ross said. “The rhino was sweltering in the heat and I think we got a bit too close. The boys fully enjoyed their trip – even though it was bit frightening.” Read more.
Westlife star Kian Egan raised cash for the Indonesian Earthquake Fund and managed to get over £7,000 by doing a parachute jump. “Jumping out of the plane had me sweating but it’s an amazing rush,” the singer told News of the World.

Westlife manager Louis Walsh tells The Mirror he had no idea band member Mark Feehily was gay. “I didn’t know he was gay at all,” said Walsh, who also manages Girls Aloud and managed Boyzone. “I swear to God. I had no idea [Boyzone’s] Stephen Gately was gay either. Mark told me he liked Eurovision and Mariah Carey so that was the biggest giveaway ever.”
