Just after ‘American Idol’ season two winner Ruben Studdard was reportedly dropped by J Records, Entertainment Weekly is now reporting season five ‘Idol’ champ Taylor Hicks has also been cut from the J Records family. “Taylor is going to record his next album on his own,” said a label rep. “He is no longer on the J Records roster.” ‘Idol’ mainman Simon Cowell was openly critical of Hicks last season after his self-titled debut failed to garner much interest. Hicks was heavily outsold by Chris Daughtry, and received much less radio play than his fellow season five alums Daughtry or Elliott Yamin.
