Tearful & Angry Celine Dion Slams Katrina Response Delays

appeared via satellite on ‘Larry King Live’ on his Hurricane Katrina three-hour ‘How You Can Help’ special show after pledging $1 million. Diminishing her gift, Dion said fresh drinking water is more meaningful than her cash and issued stinging criticism of the federal response. “There’s people still there waiting to be rescued. To me that is not acceptable,” she yelled. “I know they have reasons for it. But I don’t want to hear those reasons. … How can it be so easy to send planes in another country to kill everybody in a second and destroy lives. We need to serve our country.” Read more.

She’s so right. I still don’t understand the logic behind the federal responses. It’s haunting to think that they are quick to send soldiers out to another country to kill people, and yet they take their time to respond to a destructive hurricane that was already common knowledge before, during, and after the carnage happened. It’s such a shame.

Actually The Governors in each state are empowered to issue the National guardsmen..’, ‘in a emergency. All 3 especially the governor from Louisiana didn’t react in time.I could understand if this was 1920 when they didn’t have radar, but this is 2005 and they saw coming a mile away, they should have started a plan even before Katrina reached land..They were more like a Deer staring at headlights.

I know, everybody including those 3 governors didn’t react on time…’, ‘And it really hurts that they took this long to react. Like you said, I could understand if this were the 1920’s, but this is the year 2005, there is no excuse at all that it should give them 5 days to finally save more of those people and give them the supplies that they needed, especially when we saw the thing coming. I just don’t understand why when it comes to terrorist attacks, which we can’t ever see coming, they respond right away (rightly so of course), but yet when it comes to a natural disaster that we see coming sometimes days before it even hits we take our time. And I didn’t like how the media focused so much on the lootings that occurred. Who gives a flying f***** if they’re looting stores, as long as they weren’t shooting other people to get it, which they didn’t, then I don’t see what harm it is for them to do it in that time of crisis.

Time to sit down!’, ‘Local, State and FEDERAL leaders must sit down and review what the f)ck went wrong! The thing that bewilders me is why no one utilized the helicopters to drop water and food to the superdome and convention center instead of using them to pick up folks one by one in their homes. There were thousands of people at risk to die in those centers and not ONE drop of food/or water ever happened. It’s insane!

  5. jazzprofounder says:

I agree!’, ‘I just don’t understand why on the news they would show people on roofs, with not a helicopter in sight helping them. Or why right after the hurricane, with the news constantly saying how people are still stuck in their homes and needed to be rescued, the rescue team didn’t search in those places by going in there and helping them, the same that firemen would if there were people in a burning house. They have the equipment to go down there and search, so I don’t know what excuse there was for them to not do it. And I especially don’t understand why they didn’t have boats, food, and water already prepared for those people before the hurricane started! And I don’t understand why they emphasized the lootings so much, they would do the f**in same thing if they were in their shoes! I just find it appalling. I think more people are questioning the American local, sate, and federal government because of this.

actually bush just sent in 5,000 more troops. they’ve evacuated the last 300 people at the superdome last night. their almost done evacuating everyone so I don’t know what shes talking about

  7. ssl291 says:

Here is a few thing that could have went wrong:’, ‘The delay for the the evacuation was too short. Even if it has been given as soon as they possibly could. 12 hours after the hurricane hitted near New Orleans it was still a force one hurricane making it impossible for the emergency team to deploy right away. After the Hurricane got through the first picture of New Orleans made believe that the worst was behind. That was until the levie’s broke and started flooding the town. A large part of the rescue force was used to try and stop the flooding. The others were rescuing people in there home leaving very little people to care of the others in the convention center and the superdome. It is great that that much people survive but it also add to the difficulty help them. it is easier to rescue 10000 person than 150000. I think that what went wrong was simply that the crisis was to big to begin with and that a much quicker response was simply impossible. Afterward I think it will be acknowledge that the response was as good as possible in those circumstances.

there’s still no excuse, we knew the hurricane was coming, we could have been more’, ‘prepared. That’s all I am saying. I am not going to argue with you over an issue such as this, because obviously all you are going to do is just argue and not see the point and the message that majority of the public is questioning about.

The logic to survive by looting for food is understandable ,but stealing a 27 inch ..’, ‘plamsa T.V. is just stealing, and your wrong Jazzy people were shooting other people.A police officer was shot in the head. It’s a very small percentage of thugs who are taking advantage of this crisis.

  10. CanadianBSBFan says:

Can you reframe from using the words thugs cause some people might assume that it is’, ‘it is only black people looting and it isn’t. Let’s talk about how they locked people in Superdome and a girl got raped and there was no food or water and there were dead bodies inside.

Did you hear about that 1/3 of the police force left’, ‘So the city was under power but Canada volunteer are help right away and you know what? Bush told us to wait until they got stuff set up so now we have some things coming up besides man power, ships, helicopters and money we are sending supplies out too. But The world acted fasted then it’s own country which is shocking.
