‘Heartthrob: The Interviews’ features Tegan and Sara Quin sitting down with Andy Samberg, talking about what they consider to be attributes of a heartthrob, citing people who are charitable, generous, thoughtful, being a rebel, being trendsetters, being comfortable with your body but not obsessed with your physique, and definitely not having a mullet.
“I remember getting funny feelings about Madonna ‘Truth or Dare’,” Sara confessed. “Her body is perfect in that movie.”
“Cyndi Lauper, as girls we looked up to her, because she was like a strong, alternative, progressive, open-minded, articulate, powerful woman,” Tegan said. “I don’t love Cyndi Lauper impersonators. I think what Cyndi stands for is being your own person, not being her. Sometimes you just wanna have fun.”
Tegan then told the ‘Saturday Night Live’ funnyman, “Andy, I don’t want to be awkward about this or anything. I don’t want this to be weird. We really like you. I think you’re just so talented and you so handsome and you’re so sweet. I just want to make sure it’s very clear that you’re not our kind of heartthrob.”
