The 2003 GOOF Awards

Richard Roeper of The Chicago Sun-Times is handing out his 2003 GOOF Awards for “the most scandalous, shameful, sinful and silly personalities of the 12 months just gone by.” Amongst those awarded with GOOFs (Greatly Overexposed and Overhyped Fool) are Jessica Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, and Britney Spears. On Britney, Roeper says, “OK, so she’s a calculating little sexpot who has yet to create one lasting piece of pop culture outside of her light-porn videos and imitation-lesbian awards show appearance, but she’s not a mean kid and she doesn’t hold herself up as a role model, and she seems a little lost, so the GOOFs will honor her only with a nomination and not the championship trophy.”
