The Overrated And The Underrated

Many musicians today are underrated, while others are a little overrated. The singers I will mention are Beyonce Knowles, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears. Beyonce Knowles was the biggest female artist this year. Why did her video for ‘Crazy In Love’ and ‘Baby Boy’ were accepted while ‘Dirrty’ and ‘Me Against The Music’ were rejected by the critics and the public. Her album debuted at number one and sold over 3 million in the U.S alone. She now is nominated for six Grammys and won multiple awards this year, 3 VMAs and 2 EMAs to name a few. But does she deserve all that recognition? If she started her solo career with ‘Me, Myself, and I’, would she be as successful if she released ‘Crazy In Love’? Probably not.
Justin Timberlake had a wonderful year. First, he was rejected by the critics, dubbing him as a Michael Jackson wannabe and his performance at the VMA’s 2002 was called unoriginal. Then he started this year with the ‘Cry Me A River’ video. People made too much out of it. Did it shock anyone? No. His album went to #2 on the Billboard charts and now has sold over 3 million. Rolling Stone just dubbed him the New King of Pop and was named Artist of the Year by a some magazines. Tell me anything he did this year to deserve those titles beside sleeping with 5 women, posing half nude in magazine covers, and trying to sell Britney’s love letters. What did he contribute to the music industry? Nothing new.
Christina Aguilera also had a fantastic year and returned to the surface. Her comments about other stars overshadowed her talents. The only singer that stopped her success was Beyonce and lost many awards to her. To me honestly, she deserves them more than Beyonce and is the only female artist out there who actually can sing besides Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys. Her last 4 singles were songs that had meaning and deserved more recognition. She didn’t have to dance and dress next to nothing to attract attention, unlike Beyonce, and her singles been successful. There’s a lot of chances that she’s going to win many in the upcoming Grammys since it’s really about the quality of the album, not the number one hits and dance songs.
Britney Spears has been quiet for almost 2 years and spent most of this year recording her album. She saw her competition rule and overtake her title. Many people without hesitation, thinks Britney is talentless. That’s why I think Britney is underrated. I hate the fact that she lip-synchs, but she is great performer and is trying different genres of music. Who cares if she can’t find her own music, at least she’s trying to find her own music and is not evolving into R&B music like everyone else to have a hit.

i agree on what you said about Justin. his album was average and had average success.if it wasn’t for the fact that he was in all the gossip pages and milking his relationship with Britney he wouldn’t have been that hot this year
Justin has a successful year no doubt; but he wouldn’t have had it w/o *NSYNC, whom he’s now snubbing. Being successful is with two modes, one being musically and one being attitude. Toward the end of the year, Justin wasn’t very successful as far as the second mode goes.

I also don’t think Beyonce deserves sh**. the only reason she got big was the whole booty shake thing. she’s exploiting her ass more than J.Lo and that’s baaaad. her voice isn’t that great. it kinda sounds all monotone because I’m startin to forget what she sounds like live. she lipsynchs like Britney now. she did not deserve any awards.
i don’t think Britney is underrated…but she isn’t overrated either. In a biz where amazing vocal talent is required I feel Britney doesn’t meet up to the expectations. But it is good that she is holding strong. However, I also feel Christina is underrated. Ever since she came out she’s been hated on. For being to thin to being to fat…etc. Like she said…the media wants people to think you have problems. But I feel Christina’s Spanish comeback will be large and she’ll be considered over-publicized so I won’t care too much for it now. But Beyonce is way overrated…too be honest I feel that she wants to look like J.lo and sing like Christina or Whitney!
oh by the way…being compared to Beyonce…both Christina and Britney are way underrated. They are both prettier than her. Both can outdance her a$$ anytime anywhere…and Christina can blow her away with her vocals!
I agree with the part that Beyonce robbed Christina awards. Christina deserved those vmas more than Beyonce and I agree My, myself and I is nothing next to Beautiful and The Voice Within. I hope Christina wins more than one Grammy, she is the real deal.
Honestly, some people need to stop HATING on JUSTIN. I HATE the fact that people refuse to give him credit!!!! Sure, dating BRITNEY SPEARS helped him sell records, but his music was actually good and that’s why he sold all those records. I mean, deny it all you want, but his music is good. AND STOP ACTING LIKE JUSTIN IS THE ONLY ONE WHO’S RELATIONSHIPS HAVE HELPED HIM! ASHTON KUTCHER was practically a nobody before dating DEMI MOORE! Now he is always in the paper! Justin deserves all the awards! Christina is cool and her album is amazing. Beyonce is good, but I don’t understand why people never say anything about the way she dresses. THEY ALWAYS COMPLAIN ABOUT X-TINA AND BRITNEY, BUT NEVER SAY ANYTHING ABOUT BEYONCE! Beyonce is like half naked in all her videos and she’s always MOANING on her records, BUT I GUESS THATS OK! Bottom line: If NICK CARTER was selling a lot of albums and had a lot of relationships, NOBODY ON THIS SITE WOULD HAVE S*IT TO SAY! Y’ALL JUST LIKE TO PICK ON JUSTIN! CHRISTINA AND JUSTIN DESERVE ALL THE SUCCESS! AND I HOPE THEY ARE EVEN MORE SUCCESSFUL IN THE FUTURE.

I didn’t say anything about his relationship, but does he’, ‘deserve all the accolades and recognition he got? No. I’m a Justin fan, love his music and like every girl here, wants to date him, but dubbing him the Artist of the year and New King of Pop is a little too much since he’s only been here for a year and he didn’t bring in something new.
