Robert Hilburn of the Los Angeles Times writes: “I love a plasma TV as much as the next guy, but it’s naive to think payola is responsible for the music that gets on the radio. In other words, it’s going to take more than Eliot Spitzer to stop the commercial juggernaut of hip-hop and R&B. Yet lots of pop fans who detest what’s become of mainstream radio seem to feel the New York attorney general’s settlement Monday with Sony BMG means ‘real’ music will soon be back on the airwaves. Don’t hold your breath.” Read more.

I will not allow myself to be part of them, I swear to God. In my honest opinion, they’re all the same, — using one another, for the sake of money. I’m so sick and tired about them, giving and explaining, over and over and again, I get tired, really. Believe me, this practice, will never stop, it will continue. Let them do their thing, their time will also come, someday, but, I swear, I will never allow myself to be a part of them, never, over my dead body. Whom are they cheating? The public? In fact, they are the ones cheating themselves first. Even if they offer me, $28 million, I’m gonna throw it to their faces, honest to God. There are still decent people left in the Universe, although, rare, believe it or not, please. Thank you!!
if ever I’m one of the employees in one of these recording companies, and I consider this myself, I swear to god, I’m gonna quit immediately. I’m not one of those, whose only after money, please. it’s either you will lose me as one of your loyal friends, I’m serious, and, I meant that, the rest of my life, because, I am a decent person, that’s for sure. thank you!! go dido, lean rimes, mariah carey, sarah mclachlan, martina m. go!!
Well right now Mariah is ruling the airwaves, not rap, everytime I turn on a radio I hear “We Belong Together” and her company doesn’t do the payola crap, so I think real talent, and real music, is coming back, after all look at Kelly Clarkson who had 3 songs in the Top 10 all at once within the last year
