The RIAA Declares: It’s All About ‘Mimi’

The Emancipation of Mimi, Mariah Carey’s first record in three years and second under the Island Records banner, has been certified triple Platinum — making it her best selling album since 1999’s Rainbow according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Rainbow, Carey’s final studio album under her previous deal with Columbia Records, was certified for sales of three million copies in December of 1999 and was followed by three consecutive Platinum-selling titles (Glitter, Greatest Hits and Charmbracelet).

The Emancipation of Mimi was quickly certified Gold, Platinum and double Platinum in early June with the TRIPLE Platinum certification following just 27 days later. To date, The Emancipation of Mimi stands as the second highest certified record of 2005.
