Usher Talks Career, Reported Arrogance And Justin Timberlake

Usher was featured on the news show ‘CNN Saturday Night’ where he was briefly interviewed by host Doug Smiley. Usher discussed his upcoming US tour with Kanye West, promoted his new “mastercard,” refreshed memories about his longtime success and answered to rumors of a “feud” with pop rival Justin Timberlake. On the Timberlake feud, he said, “I don’t regret anything I’ve said and I don’t think I said anything that suggests I don’t like the kid. [Justin] and I are cool, but we’re very competitive. I strive to be the best at what I do and he respects that. And I acknowledge his strengths. We compliment eachother. So, I don’t feel like there’s a feud. There’s no point – especially when we’re at different levels in our career. When he’s done this, as a solo artist, for 10 years, then we can rust off our swords, man.” When Doug asked him what the biggest misconception about himself, Usher replied, “People think this is my first taste of success! I’ve been doing this for 10 years and I’ve had more success than this before. I’ve made history before, as an artist and entertainer. I have had 7 #1 singles, I’ve sold over 30 million albums worldwide and I’ve won 2 Grammys, back to back. I am an established artist and I don’t really get credit for that.” He also commented on a “misconception” that people think he’s arrogant or self-indulgent – but only when Doug brought it up. Usher laughed, “Confidence scares people. In this business, if you’re not sure of yourself, or aware of your ability, you won’t go anywhere. You have to be confident. I don’t think I’m arrogant. I love my fans, I give love to them – I respect those who’ve opened doors for me. People who know me, know that I’m just extremely hard working and I give myself credit for doing a good job. What’s wrong with that?”
