VMAs Fast Becoming The Billboard Awards

Over the past years I have noticed that the VMAs have lost their authenticity and in way, they have become the mini Billboard awards. The reason why I say this is because over the past years the winners of the VMAs were judged through the videos and now it seems as if they are judged because of the success of the singles in the Billboard. You will all remember when Beyonce won the VMA for best female artist in 2003 and 2005 crushing Christina Aguilera in 2003 and doing the same thing with Britney Spears in 2004. Both Christina’s and Britney videos were the most talked about and requested videos and if I may say they remain two of the most requested videos in MTV history and for them to win anything it was like were the judges paid or were they drunk. I’m no fan of Britney but her videos are great and as for Aguilera’s they always make headlines but seriously deserving videos are not winning hence their positions in the Billboard. This year the best female artist award will either go to Gwen Stefani or Mariah Carey, especially Mariah hence she has spent most weeks at the number spot the others and hence Gwen also managed to grab the number one spot. The same thing will apply to the best male video 50 Cent will win or Eminem will. Call this an essay but whatever the case I think I’m stating the obvious!
