Kwaku of Black Music Congress is speaking out on why the likes of Justin Timberlake of *NSYNC, Christina Aguilera, Eminem, and now British newcomers Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse have “appropriated” black music. Kwaku says, “Some have said music should be free and devoid of racial associations. But the reality is that the marketing of music is intrinsically linked to image, color, the shape and size of the artist, etc. Also. it’s a fact that black artists generally get less spent on them than comparable white artists. The industry also seems keener to promote a white artist performing black music than a black artist.” The full story has since been removed.
