The New York Post reports Whitney Houston’s motivation to cancel at the last minute her planned performance at the wedding of Liza Minnelli and David Gest was cancelled because she feared another bout with the tabloids, and that the bill was billed as a star turn. A pal said, “Whitney had offered to sing for her friends Liza and David. She thought it would be a small, personal gift. But then it got turned into this big, huge event. It turned into a professional gig and she just didn’t want to do it.” Houston’s rep Nancy Seltzer countered, “Several weeks ago, Whitney told David [Gest] she was recording and she didn’t think she could make. He tried to talk her into changing the recording session, but she cannot take time off from recording and make a proper professional appearance.”
