After several media appearances indicating he would, WorldOfBritney.com founder Ruben Garay went through with his promise, so far, to close down the Britney Spears site at the end of January. He said in a farewell message posted Tuesday (January 30): “Our time has come. I would like to thank each and every one of you that has stood by WoB through thick and thin for the past 6 years. It’s been quite a roller coaster ride, hasn’t it? It was a tough decision to make, but I believe the right one was made. The 28,354 news updates and exclusives that have been posted on World of Britney.com since October 1st, 2000 have chronicled the life of Britney Spears like no other website and we are proud to have accomplished so much. 37.8 million fans from over 200 countries were part of the huge net phenomenom that was WoB. None of this would have been possible without our amazing readers and followers who always understood that WoB was unlike any other fansite. We always strived to report both sides of the coin, no matter how good, or how bad, but once time began to show that negativity began to overweigh positivity by a landslide, it was a clear sign that a brand new path had to be honored.”
