Dr. Marla Shapiro writes in her column for the Globe and Mail on Tuesday: “Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie — these are just a few of the celebrity names cited in my office by teens who say they think these women have the “right body shape.” Each of these women is well below a normal body weight, yet the message teenagers are receiving — and accepting — is that being ultrathin is desirable.” Shapiro advises, “It is critical that we help develop and foster positive body images for our children. They need to understand that it is normal for bodies to change shape and grow, and that there is no one ideal shape for women or men.” Read more.
