ZOEgirl singer/songwriter Alisa Girard spoke with LA Daily News about the gap the group is filling with inspirational and message-driven Christian pop music. “When I was growing up, there wasn” t a lot of Christian music that was really good, other than stuff by D.C. Talk and the Newsboys,” Girard said. Of their self-titled debut in 2000, she commented, “We had to kind of think about what was needed in the marketplace at that time. I know a lot of parents were exasperated with Britney Spears and *NSYNC. That music was not designed to be an example, so we wanted to fill the void and give kids music they would like, but also had a spiritual message. That was our big goal.”
