Christina Aguilera Has Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

Contributed by XtinaFan:

Christina Aguilera’s mother Shelly Kearns has said before that she has post-traumatic stress disorder from what happened with Fausto. And since Christina went through the same thing, isn’t it natural that she would have it too?

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened.

People who have suffered abuse as children or who have had other previous traumatic experiences are more likely to develop the disorder.

Many people with PTSD repeatedly re-experience the ordeal in the form of flashback episodes, memories, nightmares, or frightening thoughts, especially when they are exposed to events or objects reminiscent of the trauma. ((Hasn’t Christina said before that she has nightmares, memories, flashbacks, etc. about it? (maybe that’s why she’s terrified of the dark) and “especially when they are exposed to events or objects reminiscent of the trauma”? crying during “I’m Okay”?)

People with PTSD also experience emotional numbness and sleep disturbances, depression, anxiety, and irritability or outbursts of anger. (Irritability or outbursts of anger? That would explain her getting angry at everything and dissing everyone.

Also, according to Christina’s Rolling Stone interview that she did a while back, and of course what has said recently, she “shuts down” a lot. According to Rolling Stone, she’ll zone out of everything, and even if you yell her name or tap her on the shoulder, she won’t hear you. Christina also said that she has “a lot of weird visions”. Shelly said in Rolling Stone that she wonders if Christina’s “zoning out” stems from childhood experiences. Could this be another disorder?

Another consequence of childhood violence are a lot of other disorders, including multiple-personality-disorder which Christina might have.

I’ve always wondered why Christina is so mean in one interview (example: Rolling Stone 2002) and she can be so nice in another (20/20). Her reactions in interviews always seem to change. Another example is in Blender, she was dissing Britney Spears. And in Italian Vogue, which came out 2 weeks after Blender, she was talking about what a good friendship they have.

The cause of multiple personality disorder is thought to be psychological trauma, such as chronic physical abuse or sexual abuse, in childhood. The disorder is more common in females than males.

If trauma occurs, especially in childhood, the healthcare provider should be consulted. Psychotherapy may be helpful to the child, to minimize risk of future problems such as multiple personality disorder. (I guess Christina didn’t get the help that she needed.)

The rate of relapse for a person with multiple personality disorder is fairly high. It is more likely when the person is under stress, or when an incident triggers childhood memories.

Multiple personality disorder is a condition in which two or more distinct identities or personalities alternately take control in the same person. Each personality is unaware of any others.

The symptoms of multiple personality disorder can be sudden, gradual, fleeting, or chronic. Each personality has full range of mental functions. Certain identities may emerge in certain situations. The personalities often have different names and characteristics. The personalities may be quite different from the primary one.

The following symptoms may indicate multiple personality disorder: · Two or more distinct personalities exist within one person. · Each personality has its own way of thinking about things and relating to others. · At least two of the identities take control of the person’s behavior.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it you that is strongly against speculating? Because what you are doing, right here, is speculating. True, Christina may share a few symptoms of the disorder, but who the hell are you to accuse her of having this disorder? Are you a doctor? Have you sat down and had a conversation with her? This is a very serious accusation, and would require much counseling before being able to reach this diagnosis. What you are doing is very childish and immature. And to also assume that Christina ‘didn’t get the help she needed’ is completely irrational. You have no proof whatsoever to back up any of these claims. For all you know Christina could have been going to counseling sessions her whole life and she could still suffer from symptoms. That’s IF she had the disorder. I’m sorry, but I’m completely appalled. How very rude and childish of you. It’s one thing to pick at a star’s personal life, music, photos blah blah, but to suddenly begin ranting about their mental health and diagnosing them, which is sure to start rumors, is crossing the line. Come back after you’ve been to medical school, honey.

I think it’s really sad that a Britney fan has put this much effort in to researching a disorder the person they supposedly hate supposedly has

someone has way too much free time if they’re gonna be looking this sh** up. which it probably ain’t true about her. Christina rules!

LOL, It’s funny because My mom likes Christina Aguilera but she’s always saying she thinks Christina has one of these disorders. (I Believe I’ll be getting replies of your moms a slut and things of that nature.)

This is hands down the stupidest post that’s ever made it’s way on popdirt.

One can understand mocking diva-like behavior, the outlandish clothing, or the theatrical makeup. But promoting child abuse of ANYONE is just stepping over boundaries, invisible or not, much less mocking Christina for what she has already dealt with. Clearly you could have used a little more simple PARENTING just to teach you common decency… and your spelling could use some work too.

I sorta agree with the post. Maybe she does. Now, whose the lost little girl?

LOL aww….Christina’s fans can’t accept this fact. Cute. Too bad you’re biased and your opinion doesn’t count. oh, and to the idiots that say I have too much free time on my hands…it only took me FIVE minutes. LOL. losers.

btw guys….I submitted this before I read more about Borderline Personality Disorder. So I still do think she has Post-Traumatic Stress, but I think she has Borderline Personality Disorder instead of Multiple Personality Disorder.

And just so you guys know, as much as it may seem like it, I’m not trying to diss her or anything. And to the idiots that say she can sue me… I’m NOT diagnosing her, it’s an OPINION.

It’s amazing how quickly you Christina fans dismiss this, but I think it’s pretty serious. Christina was abused as a child, and she does show many signs of PTSD. I’d think her fans would be a bit more concerned than this.

‘I was just wondering if the person who wrote this article has any background in psychology, because there are quite a few things that were stated that are not accepted. For starters Multiple Personality Disorder no longer exists under that name it is now called Dissociative Personality Disorder and there are very few licensed psychologists who accept its existence. And also symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress syndrome usually occur after triggers that set them off not just randomly. So if someone could inform as to what this article was based on that would be great.

I’ve known people who have been through much worse abuse than Christina and her mom. It seems as though they have become mortars. I suspect their personal experience with abuse would be better served by actually helping or talking to groups of women, children or men of abused children than constantly drying out their dirty laundry in the public for sympathy. So Michael Jackson. We all no what happened to Christina and her mother–heard it a million times. I think Christina’s mom is doing damage control because it seems Christina has morphed into one of her biggest enemies (Kelly Osborne) and taken on all her bad traits. She has nothing nice to say about anyone anymore. It’s really becoming a real turn-off. I say quit talking about your problems and get the therapy you need.
