David Archuleta Raises Eyebrows With “Sounds Like He’s Black” Comment
David Archuleta checked in with fans on his blog at MySpace (@davidarchuleta) on Monday (April 20), talking about what he’s been up to in the past week. The ‘American Idol’ season seven runner-up writes:
This last week I went to Cleveland, Ohio to make an appearance at the IX Indoor Amusement Park. I got sick while I was there, so I unfortunately didn’t get to ride any of the rides. I did get to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame though! I really enjoyed looking at all the different things they had there, like outfits, notes, guitars, and other things of iconic figures in music. They have the jacket Michael Jackson wore in Thriller! Pretty insane. You can’t take pictures inside though, so I don’t have any lol. But while I was there, they had an event going on after it closed I guess. I’m not exactly sure what was going on, but I know that the guy who did the Evolution of Dance on Youtube was there!!
The Utah teen may also have drawn himself into some controversy commenting on a pair of contestants on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, the much publicized Susan Boyle and 12-year-old Shaheen Jafargholi, who Archuleta said “sounds like he’s Black lol. It’s incredible.”

Meh, I don’t think it’s a big deal.
He meant that completely as a compliment by implying the boy has SOUL!!!!!
Don’t see the problem here. David meant that as a compliment because there are so many amazing black singers that he admires. He is a big fan of R&B, soul music.
David was most certainly complimenting him by saying he had a soulful voice. I agree! And, he reminds me of a young David Archuleta, who was nicknamed the the “Soul Man from Utah.”
He said that as a compliment!!!!!!!!!!! There’s nothing wrong with what he said!!! Like someone else said he’s into R&B, Soul music!!!!
okay I hate how people come up with anything to bash celebrities. Leave David alone!!! He said nothing wrong, he’s an amazing guy and is only saying that as a compliment, so please back off, he doesn’t deserve to be criticized over dumb remarks! Whoever wrote this article should stop being so judgmental and picky…i mean come on are you perfect??? ..No…so back off
David has a heart of gold. He would never say anything offensive to or about anyone. There is no reason to even be talking about this…except to give the haters more ammunition:(
The only thing that raises eyebrows is how you’re trying to make (pop)dirt out of nothing. David meant nothing bad by his comment at all – quite the opposite. Sheesh.
I really don’t see the problem here! David was complimenting the boy for his very soulful voice. I think people just really tries to put malice in everything just to make good people like David look bad… which will never happen… David has a heart of Gold and he never meant to offend anyone.
David is sweet and he just saying that the boy has a soulful voice and he admires him for that, cause little did soul and r&b music so he didn’t mean it in a bad way.
David and all of us, when we say that somebody sings like he/she was black is as a compliment. I’m truly convinced that color in people does not make any difference at all, but LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING. We white people cannot sing like black people does…. and that is a compliment of course….. and all the rest is the same……-by the way…, yellow, black, white, what is the big deal…… It is like being fat,thin,tall,gay, whatever… all the same……Love David to death though
