Enough Already, It’s Over!

I find it interesting that with the obvious disappointment of Britney Spears’ ‘My Prerogative’ here in the US and after her announcement that she will be taking a break for at least the next two years, all of a sudden coming out of the woodworks are these die hard and dare I say obsessed fans that are proclaiming her reign over everybody in the music history by throwing meaningless stats left and right, as if any of that even mattered. It sounds like you all are in denial of what, Britney, her family, her former manager, the music industry and even some of her “realistic” fans already know, it’s pretty much over for her.

No act that has had the phenomenal success that Britney has, whether deserving or not, has been able to come back successfully after a long break. New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, the Spice Girls, Paula Abdul, just to name a few were phenomenal world wide, and they are all now pop star casualties that will never ever achieve the same degree of popularity and success again. The public is fickle, out of sight out of mind. This too will become Britney’s fate and maybe Christina Aguilera’s too if she continues to make bad career decisions.

You can throw away all the statistics about record sales or whatever else, who cares, Britney herself, if you read her website messages lately, sounds like she wants to wash her hands of all those bad albums, selling millions or not, it doesn’t sound like she had much creative input in any of them, especially the first three, and it sounds like she regrets that and other career decisions that she does not want to take accountability for, so she conveniently blames her advisors.

So what if My Prerogative is No. 1 in Japan, Brazil, Istanbul, c’mon guys, you know if you had a choice the all important achievement would have been to be No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, then you can boast. I bet Britney would trade all those other countries No. 1’s to have that ONE.

Enough already, let’s talk in two years, after she’s had a kid or two, is 26 or 27 yrs. old and the dance moves are a little slower and the singing is still lip-synching, let’s see if you can still boast about her selling millions four years ago and actually have a case. Till then try going to therapy with the other Britney fans in denial, you can all use each other right now.
