It’s Beachin’

June 28, 2003 – Tiffany Maleshefski of the San Fransisco Examiner reviewed ‘From Justin to Kelly’ the movie starring Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini, giving the film perhaps the best rating of any major newspaper — 2 1/2 out of 4 stars. She writes, “The soundtrack is poppy and showcases Clarkson’s vocal talent quite well. She’s also just a peach on screen, a natural with the camera, and might be able to get a few casting bites out of what unfortunately will be a critical flop. Guarini will make the girls and boys coo, but his curly locks don’t hide his wooden performance. The major shortcoming of this film is that its producers chose to distribute it as a film instead of catering to its massive television audience.”

Leno Rips ‘From Justin To Kelly’

June 25, 2003 – Jay Leno continued his attack of Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson of ‘American Idol’ during his Tuesday monologue. He joked, “This past Saturday was the longest day of the year. Especially if you had to sit through ‘From Justin to Kelly.’ The American Idol movie ‘From Justin to Kelly’ opened in 11th place… even Madonna movies do better than that. Today the stars were both offered half a million dollars a piece not to do a sequel.”

Who expected Justin and Kelly to act anyways? This was a lame attempt to add more attention and “fame” to Justin and Kelly. Just because they sing doesn’t mean they can act. They barely even had much of a singing career. They should have made this into a TV movie so that way some people that actually spent money on this didn’t have to waste time. I heard it was a bad movie. Bad, cheesy dialogue.

Just because Crossroads made lots of money on its first week doesn’t mean it was actually a good movie. Tomb Raider made tons of money, yet, nobody even asked for the 2nd one to come out. A movie that might attract the morbid mind will always make some cash, it still doesn’t mean it’s a good movie.

Glitter wasn’t THAT bad, compared to Gigli and Swept Away. At least it meant well. There was a touching story, wonderful plot, sure dialouge wasn’t the best, but the theme was beautiful. If only it wasn’t so overlooked because its Mariah’s movie debut, which was destined to be criticized because that’s show business, and because it came out a few days after Sept. 11. The album, (or soundtrack) was out on Sept. 11. Even though I thought the soundtrack was probably the only Mariah Carey album I didn’t like because of its lack of Mariahism, with a few tracks that were okay, the movie isn’t the worse movie of all time.
