Star magazine reports ‘American Idol’ finalist and Marine Lance Cpl. Joshua Gracin is a “chronic worrier” who often goes off by himself to pray before a performance, according to an insider. “Joshua worries about his wife and child and he worries about his fellow Marines in the war,” the source added. “He’s a sensitive guy and very patriotic. He has a burning desire to do his duty. It eats at him that some people have criticized him for not being overseas with the other Marines.”

April 18, 2003 – Apparently the gay jokes passed between ‘American Idol’ host Ryan Seacrest and judge Simon Cowell have caused an uproar from GLAAD and Fox has reportedly told the parties involved to cease the banter. “The fact that this was just in jest is not the point,” says GLAAD’s Scott Seomin. “Gay viewers are insulted, and straight viewers are given permission to marginalize an entire community. I’ve heard the my-client-isn’t-homophobic excuse from Ryan’s and Randy’s publicists, which is frankly insulting. I don’t care if Ryan has gay friends or if Randy has worked for gay artists. April 18, 2003 – Globe magazine reports the sexuality of ‘American Idol’ finalist Clay Aiken has been the source of Kathy Griffin’s comedy act lately. The ‘Suddenly Susan’ star joked at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles, “When he’s singing, all I can think is, ‘Can’t you turn the gay thing down a couple of notches?’ He’s run right through my gay ceiling.” She says of Aiken’s female admirers in the ‘Idol’ audience: “I know exactly where these girls holding up the ‘I love you, Clay’ signs are coming from. Clay is the gay guy in high school who was my boyfriend who I didn’t know was gay. I had quite a few of those myself, but I don’t know why they can’t figure this one out.”

April 18, 2003 – Us Weekly is reporting that Simon Cowell of ‘American Idol’ was seen “making out” at an outdoor table at West Hollywood’s AGO restaurant with Jaimsye Haft, once married to actor Christopher Lambert and linked (briefly) to Bruce Willis. A witness tells the magazine that “It wasn’t like they were trying to hide anything.” Cowell, 43, is dating ‘Extra’ correspondent Terri Seymour.
