Katharine McPhee & Mother Peisha Perform ‘Silent Night’
After being introduced by emcee Leeza Gibbons, ‘American Idol’ season five runner-up Katharine McPhee and her mother Peisha McPhee performed ‘Silent Night’ at the 76th annual State Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on the West Steps of the State Capitol in Sacramento, California on Tuesday evening (December 4). Mother and daughter had to improvise after Peisha’s wireless mic didn’t work.
“Well thank you Leeza. My mom has definitely been someone who has been there for me every step of the way, so this is such a gift for the both of us to be here tonight,” Kat said before performing.

Congrats to you both! How wonderful it was to see Peisha again. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other. As you may know, Jim Johnson, my husband, passed away April of 2005. I’m still in Spokane teaching. I followed you all along American Idol, Katherine. I was hoping to see Mary! Mimi’s daughter played a big part in my life. Mimi was the best mom-in-law I could have had. Sorry for your loss. Best wishes always, Kathy
