Madonna Makes London Stage Debut
Madonna made her London stage debut Monday night with a preview showing of ‘Up For Grabs’. Madonna’s last stage appearance was in 1988 with ‘Speed-The-Plow’ on Broadway. Victoria Bateman, 32, said of her performance, “I thought she was a lot better than expected, she was excellent.”
Madonna & Paul McCartney Vying For Scottish Castle
May 12, 2002 – Ananova reports Madonna is reported to be competing with Paul McCartney, Sting and Mohammed Al Fayed to buy Amhuinnsuidhe Castle, the £4.5 million Scottish on the Isle of Harris. Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie are reportedly planning a special viewing of the castle.
Paltrow Says She Hasn’t Moved In With Madonna
May 4, 2002 – Gwyneth Paltrow tells the British newspaper the Daily Mail that there is no truth to the report that she’s moved in with Madonna to give the singer acting tips ahead of her West End stage debut ‘Up For Grabs’ later this month. Paltrow said, “I have no idea where that came from, but I am not living with Madonna at the moment.” No comment though from Paltrow as to whether she was coaching the singer’s acting.
‘Up For Grabs’ Refutes Madonna Gossip
May 2, 2002 – ‘Up for Grabs’ director Laurence Boswell played down recent gossip about the plays’ star Madonna. Boswell denied reports that Madonna was and being “difficult” saying, “Not much is being said officially, so people are making it up. The stage being raised by five feet to prevent fans mobbing her, that is total, total rubbish. And people not being allowed to look her in the eye is nonsense … Whenever any group of people get together, of course there are arguments. But nothing out of the ordinary.”
Sony Shelves Madonna & Ritchie Film ‘Swept Away’
May 1, 2002 – Bill Zwecker of the Chicago Sun Times reports the Madonna starring, Guy Ritchie directed film ‘Swept Away’ set to debut at this month’s Cannes Film Festival, but after the very poor reception the film received at several private screenings, it’s been shelved. Sony Pictures is reportedly demanding major changes, but a spokesperson for the film company said publicly ‘Swept Away’ is “one of a number of films for which we have yet to set a release date.”
