Mariah Carey: ‘Glitter’ Release Was Badly Timed

Swiss newspaper SonntagsZeitung caught up with for a Q&A and asked the singer what went wrong with the release of ‘Glitter’. “‘Glitter’ was ahead of its time – today it’s ‘in’ to make 80’s music,” Carey reasoned. “But the timing was bad – I released it around September 11, 2001. The talk shows needed something to distract from 9/11. I became a punching bag. I was so successful that they tore me down because my album was at number 2 instead of number 1. The media was laughing at me and attacked me.” Check out the entire interview at

I agree, it was ahead of its time, and released at a bad time, clearly, but who cares, it’s irrelevant to dwell on the past

  2. mandysdandy says:

It was a bad album that accompanied an even worse movie. I love how she blames the 9-11 attacks and can’t admit that her album just sucked. It got terrible reviews from most critics and was destined to bomb.

How is making an album of 80’s music ahead of its time. Age certainly hasn’t made Mimi any smarter. In fact she’s speaking like an 11 year old more then ever before.

  4. Potrzebie says:

Yes, it was ahead of its time. They should have waited about 500 years to release it, when we’re safely gone.

This is why I’ve come to hate Popdirt so much…’, ‘MusicMan only focuses on negative (or potentially negative) things in news and magazine articles, and doesn’t honestly present what’s actually being said. That was such a minor part of that entire interview, yet this sh*thead honed in on it like it was such a big deal. All she said was that it was ahead of its time; it’s not as though she was saying it was the best album ever. Read the ENTIRE article, then comment. Don’t just read the little manipulated pieces MusicMan posts. If there’s a link to a bigger story, follow it.

Uh, the general consensus is that she’s talking about her career. The article IS…’, ‘about her, after all, so wouldn’t it make sense to talk about her experiences and defend herself on some issues? If she were so full of herself, she wouldn’t grant interviews to minor publications. If she were so full of herself, she wouldn’t be giving millions of her own money to charities that help underpriviledged children advance in life. The woman is clearly not full of herself. Jennifer Lopez, on the other hand, clearly is. The woman can’t stand to charity for more than five minutes, lest she be forced to share the spotlight with some funky-@ss kids or give some of her money away.

Wow, you’ve sunk to a new level of hating, J. Did we forget our meds this morning, sweetie? Or did we take too many? Pink really isn’t my thing, but she looks good in that dress. Thank God she’s not combining leather and fur, which make a horrendous mess. Now, that look is the epitome of cheesy.

Jennifer wouldn’t have stolen music from it if it sucked…’, ‘there were some pretty good songs on that album; it just got overshadowed by her personal stuff and the terrorist attacks. Plus, when the media is ragging on somebody, people rarely think for themselves and allow the media to tell them what they should think.

Get over it. This was never meant to be a fan site. Go to for that.

  7. RadioFreeRoscoe says:

I never said that it was. I just said that I hate the bias in general.

  8. MariahCareyFreak says:

Mandydandy your a loser!’, ‘Your a B!tch! Your on here all the time. You think your cool! lol! YOUR JUST SAD! It’s really funny how you bash someone who is loved by millions. So I don’t think she cares what you think about her. You also don’t have the balls to stand in front of her face and say the things you say on this site. That makes you a punk! I’d love to here you talkin sh!t about Mariah Carey when there fans all around you screaming Mariah’s name. Now what little b!tch! I bet you I hit you it your face and beat the f*ck out of you… I just wish one day I run into just one of you. I that would make my day. I’d take all my hate out on you!

  9. RadioFreeRoscoe says:

Who let you out of your cage, sweetheart? I need a word with you…’, ‘The little band of Mariah’s detractors is rather small and insignificant—so don’t blow a gasket over what they say. Sure, they make ridiculous statements to provoke people, but it’s because of their low self-esteem. They’re none too bright either, as evidenced in their comments. Just ignore them, or if you must respond, do so intelligently.
